Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumour: Sony's PS5 is definitely more powerful than Microsoft Project Scarlett

Which will be the more powerful?

PS5 53 63.86%

XB4 30 36.14%

Total:83

Instopped caring who was more powerful with Xbox 360 and PS3 and the difference becomes more irrelevant with each new gen as far as I am concerned. Everything looks amazing to me.

Here is a different prediction: without knowing anything else about them, I believe PlayStation will be the clear sales winner. I don’t think Microsoft cares anymore, hence almost all their exclusive games appearing on PC also, and hence a lot of rumours of MS partnering with Nintendo and Sony in Unprecedented ways. Xbox was a strategic move to keep Sony from creating a “living room pc”; tablets have killed the potential for that market, and now Microsoft’s biggest fight is on the cloud front against Amazon and Google.

First party games on Sony showed they go lower level than MS.

You can't go any lower level than a low-level API unless you wish to start writing in machine... And no dev is/has done that in generations.

Playstation 4 outshone the Xbox One simply because it was superior in almost every way except for the CPU, not because of any software layers.

We had plenty of reports on Naughty Dog doing basically write to machine on PS3, may as well have done on PS4 but haven't seem evidence of it (or other devs).

But we have heard about the low level on PS4 being "closer" to the metal than Xb1.

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

They'll be close enough that I won't be able to see the difference. I'll go with PS5 because I like their exclusives better.

I have a feeling that they just don't care. There was an ign survey that said the vast majority wants a next gen PlayStation than anything else. I think even devs are defining next gen based on what sony brings out. Just like gen 8. They will build everything on sony's console then port to everything else. So after they are done experimenting with the ps5 dev kit then they will give the Xbox dev kit a glance.

You have to wonder how happy, or not happy, devs are about this all online gaming that MS is aiming for, before everyone is even ready for it. They're going to be pushing for games to be on xCloud and/or GamePass out of the gate, which can't be anywhere as profitable as selling direct to the gamer.

Speaking of xCloud, do we know it will actually be like Netflix? Or will it be the same horrible concept as Stadia?

Directx suck compared to Vulkan, it's a fact and console can even lower than Vulcan . If Microsoft focus on many device than Directx is a must. The consequence is They will be holded by Xbox One and lower budget PC from Xbox One era.

Flops is irrelevant.

The big thing happening next gen is Ray Tracing.
Microsoft has outright stated that Scarlett will have hardware accelerated Ray Tracing.
Sony has stated it's Playstation 5 console can do Ray Tracing but no mention on whether it is hardware accelerated.

PC variant of Navi doesn't have hardware accelerated Ray Tracing, but can still do it via brute force essentially... But then again, so could the base Xbox One.

If The Xbox 5 has hardware accelerated Ray Tracing and the Playstation 5 does not, then that is a significant advantage in the Xbox's favor... Irrespective of the similar base hardware architecture. (Zen+Navi+GDDR6+SSD)

Depends on the devkit variant.
Some early Xbox 360 dev kits used a Mac, which were close enough but not a match for the Xbox 360 environment.

No.
Microsoft will leverage Direct X+Low Level API.
Sony will leverage Vulkan+Low Level API.

Neither Sony nor Microsoft have an advantage in this area, neither will be "closer to the metal" than each other.

That is only your opinion and may not be fact.

Scarlet will be no more limited by the Xbox One and PC than the Playstation 5 will be limited by the Playstation 4 and PC.

Contrary to popular belief... The games library of the Playstation and Xbox tend to be identical for the most part, exclusives are a very tiny fraction of the overall games library.

All other things being equal, exclusives will be a major factor in choosing a path between the two consoles. This gen, the disparity in this department has been absolutely glaring and has not gone unnoticed by either side. It's not just the number of exclusives, but the quality of them, and Sony has certainly delivered.

The other thing is that damn near everything Microsoft puts out is also available on the PC and they seem to be going even more in that direction, as well as starting to put things out for Nintendo's hw as well. There's less and less reason to buy an Xbox of any sort.

You nailed it

On game designing factor. Every games will be holded back by Xbox One (Microsoft commit so to support Xbox One  , unlike PS5 Sony will not supported to make exclusives on PS4 anymore

Why would Microsoft go to low level API if Microsoft intended to make games for every platform (low cost budget gaming PC / Xbox Original )??? Directx is more than enough . Most of games on Windows and Xbox already full directX, even some Xbox One games  planned to be played directly to PC . Xbox Scarlet will just be a PC or Steam machine. Also with Mod support and windows UI. Xbox will be a PC.

Exclusives is tiny yet both company are commit to bring more exclusives to the library, we will see a huge catalog of exclusives next year because the winning factor will be exclusive and quality.

Also stop replying in this method because i don't get any notification from you.

"all online"? They don't have any "all online" aim. You can download every single Gamepass title whether it's Xbone, 360, or OG Xbox. You can buy them outright whether you're subscribed or not. Trying to force online onto people would have been locking Horizon 4 behind Gamepass. And in what universe would they approach publishers expecting them to launch their games onto Gamepass or xCloud? lol. Of course xCloud will require Internet, just like PS Now requires it to stream PS3 games.. they're cloud services.

Two of the bigger publishers, if not the two biggest, have their very own Gamepass type service. Publishers aren't scared of putting their games into a subscription service.
