Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware April 13th 2019

It looks like the switch will sell gangbusters this year, considering that the PS4, xbone and 3ds continue to fall, all the games that are worth getting for the switch will roll out soon, it's already up without any major games and it won't have any competition if the rumours are true that the next power twins will come in 2020. I think the 18mil is just there to shatter expectations. It's gonna cross PS4 in Japan soon and the xbone worldwide by the end of the year and never look back. The only exciting thing this year will be seeing the switch rise.

I was wondering when the XBox One S AD was coming out but I see it's already available.

In Canada it costs CAD 299!! CAD 79 less than bundles with one (new) game. It's cheaper at least, why is the orginal still CAD 379, XBox One X is still CAD 599. PS4 base is CAD 380, PS4 pro is CAD 499, Switch is CAD 380.

Looking at the prices this gen still has a long way to go....

anytime I see that I just feel someone at MS needs to be fired. Worst name ever.

That $199 PS4 can't come soon enough.

LOL! Each time MS tries to find a cool name, somewhere in South Park a panda cries.

Nice to see Switch continuing to have a healthy lead over PS4, despite those wacky Europeans

Those wacky Europeans are simple to explain. In one pic:

We used to be able to see how the weekly sales compared to last week's sales when there were still software numbers. How can we compare weekly sales now?

For some reason this tool doesn't work very well for me. I can't select which consoles to display because it's underneath the time range selector. Is that just a Chrome thing?

Alternatively, you can also check this thread, which compares the 3 consoles' sales this year to last year, gives you pretty much all the data you're looking for: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=239387&page=1

I forgot about this thread! I'll have to follow this one closely this year. It still does have its limits though. It can only help me track current consoles for the current year and last, unlike the old hardware tool which let me do things like compare the peak sales of two consoles from different generations, or easily look up the combined sales of the three main consoles at different points to compare, or what have you. Which it still does all that in theory, but it's messy and buggy now, so I can't get it to do most of that. But this thread definitely takes care of most of my curiosity.

Now do one for NA.....

Hint: replace FIFA with Rainbow six, overwatch, apex and madden.

Too bad as slow as the average American internet speeds are, Canada's are considerably worse. SAD edition has a much smaller market here. Hardware prices here are higher due to our lousy canuck bucks and surely would sell vastly more units at $299 or less.

Yeah I got lucky I guess. The pro was CAD 399 at release, same price as the ps4 at release. Then prices went up thanks to the dollar. So after buying the pro for 399, 599 for the xbox one x felt way too much. Plus here the base ps4 is now only CAD 20 less than at release, over 5 years later, thanks to the exchange rate.

Plus games went up from CAD 60 to CAD 80, with tax over 90 dollars. I'm pretty sure wages didn't go up 33% to match!

When I bought my PS4 1200 the dollar was still strong and I think PS4 was $349 msrp here and I paid around $269 I believe on BF and got the UCC and TLOU bundle. I can't help but chuckle when I see the PS4 prices now and realize how ridiculous it is that I was able to buy mine when I did for how much I did and now it's almost full launch price again. It paid to be a mid-early adopter here in Canada this gen.

Games have gone up no doubt, but they also have been dropping rather quickly. I picked up AC Origins only a couple months after launch for $40 when it was $80 at launch. Many other games, even blockbuster AAA, have been coming down to half price within 6 months time, during sales anyway. GOW was $30 on BF. That doesn't help all that much though with the hardware prices being where they are today. Cheap enough software doesn't really help sell expensive hardware, in relation to the U.S. right next door anyway.

Nice.....numbers steadily flowing in!!!! Switch rolling in the wind, PS4 living on and XB1 heading off into the background disappearing......
