while they build up their own monopoly and turn PC gaming into console gaming for their own benefit and the benefit of the few greedy devs/pubs.

False equivalency. A game being exclusive to XBOX hardware locks out gamers who do not own that hardware. A game being exclusive on Epic does not lock me out from buying and playing the game. It only "locks" out people who have self-imposed restrictions on where they buy their digital games.

2020 is gonna be a huge year for Steam lmao.

Late releases alongside day to day releases.

Not if many 2020 releases get delayed to 2021 and so on.

@OP

I predict STEAM will make a permanent reduction to their cut to 20% no matter how well a game sells. This should help safe guard indies and small devs who need every bit they can get. Epic will target them as well. In the end they may be forced to cut it to 15 or 10%.

The pc market is getting super fragmented now. The only winners here are those who don't care about buying their games from different sources.

They won’t since all of them are confirmed for a year after release from EGS release date and its impossible for Epic to money hat all publishers like Activision’s Sekiro for an example

i also disagree  in the pc market getting fragmented, it’s gonna end up becoming bigger for all platforms imo especially with more Sony and MS games coming to the pc space (and more Japanese games coming as well)

It is getting fragmented though. If you are someone who refuses to embrace all sections you are missing out. Many consumers won't care and will benefit though.

I know they won't pay for exclusivity off everybody but my point is they might do a similar effort in 2020 as they did in 2019.

"self-imposed", so you're basically telling me to buy it from that storefront then?, because that's not even a thought I would have in one's mind. Don't tell me where to buy from. I won't even be kind to anyone holding such an inkling of that thought process.

Your second sentence and third sentence conflict with your argument that it will cause a fragmentation.

i don’t think it will instead will coexist like Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo.

if their effort in 2019 is like in 2020, then it won’t make a difference lol.

People who want the game will buy it on EGS or will wait a year to get it on other platforms like Steam or GOG if it’s something that is from a company who doesn’t have their own store .

i don’t really see any possible fragmentation especially since all you need to do is download a client and online MP is free unlike on consoles where it’s actually fragmented unless there’s crossover online capabilities which thankfully seems like pubs and devs are pressuring the big 3 to implement

"the process or state of breaking or being broken into fragments."

That's the definition I'm going off. The market is not as centred around STEAM as it once was.

Not saying you're wrong but we've only seen some of their 2019 effort. They've made a good effort so far and will soon target indies. Who knows what other AAA or AA games they'll announce this year. I've a feeling it's only the start.

I honestly don’t think it will be as bad as you think it will be

Time will tell , there’s so many games coming out so we will see :)

About the games agreed. If you don't mind what storefront you buy off pc is going through a golden age in terms of releases. All it needs now is someone like Valve releasing a few AAA pc exclusives a year like Sony and Nintendo do.

If you're a Nintendo fan the Switch is great or a playstation fan it's never been better. Those 3 platforms are all going through a golden age and long may it last.

I'm telling you no such thing.  You can buy whatever you want or don't want.  But the fact is, it's YOU who are making the decision whether to buy from a particular storefront. And that's not the same as a game being exclusive to a piece of hardware you don't currently own. Not the same at all.

You are giving me zero options when you say what you said beforehand. It becomes a you go for it or it becomes "artificially forced", which then becomes a simple "go buy it", ergo, telling me what to do. I don't buy into that "if you want it so much you'd go for it" mentality, because that involves throwing away principles and standards. if you're up for that, go for it, be my guest, but I'm not, so it becomes a "you do this and like it" whenever that phrase is tossed my way. See, I don't take kindly to being told when to lower my standards, and I know in this instance, with what's currently going on, they aren't all the way to the Moon. I'm also not up for giving up consumer choice and protections either.

Unless it's one of the greatest games ever, this just means that I'll buy it at least 12 months later if ever. I'm patient enough for that.

Steam may not have to do crap all. If these games that are going exclusive to other stores end up flopping then they'll just come crawling back to Steam with their tails between their legs anyway. Well, either that or go bankrupt. But hey, you reap what you sow!

That's not a very good way to look at it, hoping they flop.. and if they don't? Metro sold 2.5x more on Epic Store than the last Metro game on Steam.. Gamers will be pushed to buy there favourite games on other platforms because they wont have a choice which means big AAA games wont really flop especially on a free to download app like Epic Store.

Ill give you an example, I only brought an Xbox for the Halo series, I couldn't play Halo 3 on PC so I forked out money to buy a console which I didn't want, I didn't want any consoles. Halo is that good to me. Now if Halo Infinite came out exclusive to Epic Store, ill bloody buy it still, because I am a fan of the game not the platform, I wont boycott it, that will only affect my gaming experience. I will however be very disappointed if the decision was made to keep it off a MS platform but the power of a franchise like Halo will win me over regardless what it is on. Now modern gamers today wont care either because Epic store is free and they will go where the games are.

What we need is competition to bite back and start forcing some hands themselves. Like Steam needs to get in on them as well instead of letting companies buy exclusives rights to keep games off Steam.
