Rather bad numbers all around. Basically everything is way below expectations, and both PS4 and XBO numbers are really bad for a December. I mean, when was the last time either did below 1M in December?

Bad numbers all round? Nintendo just had the highest December sales total since the Wii in 2010.

That "bad" was compared to the rumors and last year's numbers. I absolute numbers Switch did excellent.

According to the insiders of resetera, the switch was supposed to be 2.5 millions :/

So I would have been lied to !

According to the insider at Resetera, BTW who was not an npd insider and not an insider at all, he works for a large retail company and has access to a lot of data (but not 100%) of the data which he's made clear on more than one occasion, and this is assuming you mean Benji. He consistently said that he thought his data was Switch heavy this month and he was correct. He also said he thought that Switch could hit 2 million but that it was never guaranteed and it's correct of him to say this. You need to get a grip man.

It's a shame that wild rumors inflating everyone's expectations kinda rained on Switch's parade when it did achieve the best single month performance of any console this gen.

I told people in that infamous PR from Nintendo back in November to not trust blindly insiders predictions like Benji, because they are just..., that, and they can be wrong, as it ended happening in December. If Nintendo says something and it is proved wrong afterwards, choosing to believe Nintendo numbers is always still a better choice.

And yes, Switch did fantastic, 1'7-1'8M in December, after such November is a great result. We should look more what Switch did Nov+Dec combined than just December. That shows more and better perspective of Switch success.

You can't just discredit Benji like that. I'm sorry but he made 5 predictions based on his available data and he got 4/5 correct.

Switch > xbox > ps4 ✅
Switch becoming best selling platform of 2018 ✅
Switch having biggest month of the generation ✅

 Switch hits 2million ✖
PS4 sales being extremely weak ✅

I wasn't discrediting Benji at all. What i said was that the problem Benji has suffered recently is that most people when hearing something Benji says treated it like it was a fact, and when it didn't become true because it was just a prediction (because the position he has is one of the better ones doing that) they thought they were lied (is not my case, i'm just trying to explain the reaction from some people, despite being fair or not) because they treated a prediction like it was going to be a certainty. Why?, because, yes, Benji was usually right, but because he went full cocky in recent weeks saying he felt disrpected for not being trusted when he is almost always right (he even called VGC a "shit hole" because some opinions of him here), so people should trust everything he says, and then giving a prediction way way optimistic about the hottest gaming product at the moment. He should had known better what he was doing, and i think he regretted saying that, but it was too late.

In conclusion, the problem is trusting blindly any insider because is only going to create problems in the long run, even if he/she is the best one out there. Because despite having data, they're are just doing predictions, and when you give your opinion in the internet, there's always going to be someone who is going to think different. That's why we should have believed Nintendo in that PR more than anyone else despite existing very legitimate doubts about the accuracy of the numbers (and despite being wrong in the end). One is an official source, the other one was just a person.

I already said i respect what Benji did for us, people that want to talk about gaming sales, and i wish he decides to come back in the future.

Was there a big blowout sale on Xbox One in December? Only month of the year where it beat PS4, and I cannot think of any huge exclusive release or anything. Or else the better question might be why did PS4 hit the wall so hard after November...

Sorry, I think Smash will barely miss the top 10.

Yeah, probably... the top 10 should probably be (in no particular order), RDR2, COD BOPS4, NBA2k19, FC5, Spiderman, GOW, Madden NFL19, .....mmm maybe can be top 10 still, the only ones i can think could have sold more than 3'6M in USA are BF V and AC Odyssey....I don't think Pokemon Let's Go or MH World were capable.

So Smash was 5th for the ywar. It really seems you have some sort of anti Nintendo bias on this forum. Consistently trying to put a spin on positive numbers, saying Smash wouldn't be able to hit the top 10 games of the year and saying the numbers are overtracked on vgchartz.

Now I don't know if you do but this is the way your posts come across and it's very tiring to read post after post.

Wow... I guess you read things the way you want to understand them i guess....

Because in that quote you post, i'm definitively saying the opposite, that Smash is probably going to be in the top 10, but whatever.... And yes, i think Switch is overtracked in VGC like i explained in detail. If you have a problem with that, report me to mods but don't waste my time with childish accusations.

So.....PS4 won almost every month of the year in NPD but for Switch it was enough to win December to be the best selling console of the year in the USA. Once again "el que ríe de último ríe mejor". Thanks to Sakurai for that gift from the gods called Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

PS4 won 8/12 months. That isn't almost all, that's almost half of the year won by Switch. It really is impressive either way because Switch only needed 1/3 of the NPD'S to outsell PS4 & xb1
