Which game will be shown the longest at the e3 Direct 2019?

I was wondering how much time Nintendo allocates to the games on the Switch in their presentations. Therefore I decided to create a thread about it.

I will look at Nintendo exclusive games (including its DLC). When a game got ported from Wii U (i.e. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe) I only count the time that the port was presented and not the version on the original system. I only exclude The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild from that rule since it got released simultaneously on the Switch and the Wii U.

After every Nintendo Direct or the main e3 presentations I will update the numbers. I won’t include Nintendo Treehouse (I consider Nintendos e3 presentation in 2016 a Treehouse).

To make things easier I will count every started minute as a whole one.

To clarify how I calculate my numbers I will make an example:

Arms was presented on following days for following minutes:

 

  • January 12, 2017 for 6 minutes
  • April 12, 2017 for 8 minutes
  • May 17, 2017 for 21 minutes
  • September 13, 2017 for 1 minute
  • March 8, 2018 for 2 minutes
6+8+21+1+2= 38 minutes

Haha very nice and dedicated work. The amount of time spent on Smash is insane. They truly believe this is the game that will carry them to their forecast.



Kind of depressing when you consider it. I understand the ARMs minutes, considering it's a new franchise, but Smash and Splatoon are WAY overdone. We really didn't need to go dozens of minutes into detail about every bit of content in Smash.

Breath of the Wild would actually be first, most likely, if you considered all of the 2016 Direct coverage it had; so it is not completely depressing stats.

On the amount of time per game? I think new franchises like ARMS, and games that have significant changes like Breath of the Wild should have much more coverage than say: Smash Brothers version 5, or New Super Mario Bros version whatever - for the most part, we already know what we're getting with these formula games, but with new franchises and non-formula games there's a lot of stuff that's really interesting to learn about.

Thank you for mentioning BotW. I forgot to write, that I did not count the time of the e3 presentation in 2016 since it was in my opinion more a Treehouse than a e3 presentation.

However I included all the other e3 presentations starting with 2014 when BotW was first revealed.

Obviously Smash Bros has gotten way too much screentime in these Directs, it's going to be big regardless and doesn't need twice as much exposure as the number 2 game. E3 Direct was a huge blunder

I think the time should be a ratio of the games content and popularity. Though how secretive they want to be with the game is the biggest overwhelming factor. With Smash they show everything, has tonnes of content and is one of the most popular series of all time. I think that's why it's so high on the list.

They did spend far too much time on smash, basically 90% of the E3 smash footage could have been cut. Don't need to slowly go through every character and talk about how there moves have changed. There isn't really a right amount of time to talk about a game pre-release though.

Not really. It's a big franchise, that sells on its own.

When a good band is in town all you need to hear about it is they are in town to perform on X days and your excitement automatically puts in in your mind on getting tickets as soon as they go on sale, even months out.

Crappier bands need more air time so you go you know what I got nothing better to do next week I'll grab a ticket.



 

 

Arms and Xenoblade 2 air time definitely help with their sales, I would say.
