This looks to be a much more successful idea than going with the traditional handheld market. Smartphones (much bigger user base than handhelds) + cloud gaming + attachments for controlling.

Hmm yeah i do not think this will take off but its a good option for those that like short mobile gamingsessions , although i am not sure if that is the same crowd playing console games.Might be handy for the kids that live in a home with only one television but those are getting rare these days no?

I prefer traditional consoles with traditional controllers.

Yeah what Ayla said was a bit conflicting but for Nintendo themselves the current console is very traditional if you look at the predecessors as they always "switch" things around each gen and the joy con's do have it's practical use to play games on a smaller screen otherwise those could also be called gimmicky offcourse.
So if you buy the switch to solely play on the big screen then the console can be partly gimmicky on a private level but not in general in my opinion.
