Forums - Movies Discussion - Venom was my second favorite movie of the year, just behind Infinity War Venom, aquaman is second and very close to first

I was not going to see this movie. Even my friends told me some liked it and some thought it was just ok. Critics hated it according to metacritic and even Jermey Jahns my goto critic said it was just ok.

So I got a free ticket for my bday from the local cinemas, was bored during my three day vacation from work, so I finally drug myself to go see it. I think, due to how unhyped I was for this movie that I ended up completely loving it! The action, visuals and story was very enjoyable to me. Even the drones who played in this film were not as terrible as they could have been. I hated Brocks accent in the film, his fiance is just terrible and should only play in dramas though. Still, despite being totally the wrong part, I stomached her. Her head would have made a tasty snack lets just say, sorry Venom humor.

A-

Tied for 3rd.
1. Infinity War
2. Black Panther
3. Venom and Christopher Robin

Edit: And based on the trailers I've seen for Bohemian Rhapsody, Venom may get bumped down to 4 or 5.

I haven't seen it yet, but I've heard good things from friends who have seen it. My ranking order for the movies I've seen so far this year:

1. Avengers: Infinity War
2. The Incredibles 2
3. Solo: A Star Wars Story
4. Christopher Robin
5. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
6. Hotel Transylvania 3
7. Ant-Man and the Wasp
8. Life of the Party

I’m kind of curious about it. Someone told me “it is affably bad, and it wields it’s dumbness like a weapon”.
If I can make peace with that, maybe I can enjoy it. But my tastes align too closely with critical consensus to seek it out. If it finds me, I’ll give it a try. But I’m not going to seek it out. I’m glad people are enjoying it, though, and I hope the franchise has a bright future.

I really enjoyed Jurassic World 2, and actually despite what many said, Solo was fun as well.

I might go see it this weekend.

My top 8 so far this year goes like this:

1. Avengers: Infinity War

2. A quite Place

3. Hereditary

4. Black Panther

5. The Incredibles 2

6. Deadpool 2

7. Ant-Man and the Wasp

8. Venom

With the way critics described it, I expected it to be Fantastic Four(Miles Teller) levels of bad. This was actually a pretty fun movie and really wished this had the possibility to crossover with Tom Holland's Spiderman. Venom is such a fun character.

It actually wasn't that bad. Not outstanding, but definitely entertaining in a good way. I give it about a 7/10.

I've seen it twice, not because it was a good film, infact in some parts it was just bad but because of Venom (plus I have a cineworld card so go to the cinema as much as I can).

It had a slow build up, was jumpy and some parts were really poorly acted, and a bit 'stale' in plot but as soon as Venom showed up. Film got a huge boost.

Hmm, pie.
