Sony made the announcement at their IFA conference today. 80m+ monthly active users. Playstation doing oh so good.

Its interesting that Sony is using MS words in their PR now. I guess it just sounds too good.

You gotta respect what Sony done with the PS4, came out the gate an absolute beast and hasn't slowed much in 4-5 years of domination.

still though, regarding those numbers, to be fair.... I'm well aware that my folks who use one of my ps3's as a netflix box count as an active psn user each month, considering you can get that system now for around 50e I'm sure there is a fair few of them being picked up just to turn older HD tv's into smart TV's for spare rooms in the house, especially since all those apps are outside of any paywalls.

I assume that does count people like me who have not touched their PS4 in months but still have it plugged in while the PS4 is constantly checking in in standby mode.

I guess if anything they have maintained. Hopefully they can grow the numbers, and increase the reach of their OS and Store Front.

A quick search shows Android at 2+ Billion, iOS at 1.3+ Billion, Windows 10 600+ Million, and Xbox One 59+ Million.

Sony is not a long ways ahead of XBO, but they have a long way to go to reaching mass market. Getting their OS and Store Front on their Phones and TVs would be a huge leap in the right direction. All Sony products should be running their OS, and the X,O, Square, Triangle, R1, R2, R3, L1, L2, L3 should be standard functions on all Sony devices. A standard language that allows anyone to pick up any Sony device and know exactly how to operate it.

They have a built a great foundation with PS4, now they just need to captialize on it. They have all the assets to see massive growth. They have just as much man power as Apple, Microsoft, and Google. Now they just need to utilize it correctly.

Funny was chatting with my buddy on psn the other day and he goes did you hear ps4 has sold 500m units. I face-palmed but didn't actually correct him just for lols. It's funny how easily people misinterpret pr. You can see why Ms take the approach they take.

That, and multiple users on a single console I guess. Or people like me who’ve only used it for Netflix last month.

But regardless, 80m is a big number to attach to anything.
