Forums - Sales Discussion - Ps4 sells over 7m in Japan

People see what they want to see, and seem to be willing to say anything to fit their argument. What a surprise right? Now if you ask, if there are Nintendo fans that say that, then they are just as wrong as Sony fans claiming it to be one or the other. The correct answer is listen to Nintendo themselves. It is a home console that can be taken on the go, simple as that. It is in competition with the PS4, no matter how it is positioned. At the end of the day, it is in competition for the consumers playtime.

The Switch is a home console that can be taken on the go as much as it is a portable that can be hooked up to the TV as a home console. It largely depends on how it's being used from individual to individual, not what Nintendo themselves say. In addition, it is in competition with the PS4 as much as it fills a niche that the PS4 does not fill, which is in this case, portability. If a consumer is only interested in playing games on the go, then the PS4 is already out of the picture in that consumer's eyes because it is purely a home console.

You think FF7R is coming out on PS4. That's so adorable.

Surely it would make the most sense to release it on ps4 in 2020 then give it a remaster on ps5 in 2021 for maximum sales. Why would SE suddenly leave the ps4 and its massive WW user base?

Reason 1: Because Square Enix started production from scratch in mid 2017 when they sidelined CyberConnects development and moved it in-house.

Reason 2: Because Square Enix can always take a check from Sony to make it either permanently exclusive to PS5 or a timed exclusive to the PS5.

No matter how it plays out - FF7R is STILL hiring people and has a year some months of development. That shit is coming out on PS5. Bank on it.

I, too, believe that FF7R will be a cross-gen title. If Sony has the opportunity to advertise FF7R as a PS5 "launch" title, then they will most definitely take advantage of that.

Yes PS4 will most likely sell twice less than PS2 in Japan in the end. But monetization is much better with PS4. Many people that bought PS2 did it for the DVD player. And there wasn't any online store (and their 30% cut on all transactions) and PS+ services back then.

They'll make more profit selling 11 million PS4 than selling 20 million PS2:

So you're saying your statement is partial, an excludes a competitor on purpose ("No one expects the PS4 to outsell the Switch"). That doesn't make any sense.

And you said PS4 is the one which will outsell its predecessor, so why do you compare the Wii U to the PS4 instead of the Switch, the successor of the Wii U ?

I said the PS4 is the only one ITS Generation. Between the PS4, PSV, Xbox One, 3DS, and Wii U only the PS4 is on track to outsell its predecessor. I never mentioned the Switch in my original post. The reason why should be obvious. It did not go on sale at the same time or was concurrent on the market for the same duration as the others in Japan.

Neither was the Wii U. If the next PS lanches in late 2020, the Switch would be concurrent of the PS4 the same duration as the Wii U.

The last Home Console to had huge success in Japan was the Ps2.

What are people expecting with the Ps4?

I have seem more Nintendo fans going on calling it one or the other depend on the situation to defend Switch (like if it could have all the positives from both sides but no negatives) than Sony or MS fans to criticize it. It is necessary to accept that it being hybrid it have the pro and cons of both and depending on what you like to play one will outweight the other to you.

People see what they want to see, and seem to be willing to say anything to fit their argument. What a surprise right? Yes, even if someone want to streach it to not accept, at least they are systems competing for your money.

I don't doubt it will release on ps5. I just doubt that they won't release on ps4. Even a 2021 release I could see it also on ps4.

Case fucking closed. Ps4 is the most successful playstation ever in japan. Most profitable. How do people even argue Sony don't care about Japan. Its crazy.

And yet the ps4 was more profitable then the ps2. Go figure!

Also why are people bringing up the switch? It's a gen 9 hybrid. It's not a gen 8 traditional home console.

Please show me where on that chart it says anything about Japan.

You can be sure that 7 mill (and counting) PS4 sold in Japan is more profitable than 10.5 mill PS3.

Usually, you guys fall over each other to point out how big of a failure PS3 was financially. You can't have it both ways.
