Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4: Insomniac Stunned By Spiderman Pre-Orders

Great news.

I thought it was Sony that having the rights for the Spiderman in cinema that had a deal with Marvel.

But they having the option to choose the franchise there is space for more games of other IPs in the future by Insomniac or other studios. Perhaps a Sony Marvel Studio =]

Hopefully this game will perform very good and become the best selling Spider-Man game! Insomniac truly deserves that, they have never disappointed me.

Well liked studio, thats rideing a "high" (when was its last bad game?).
AAA levels of effort, into a big IP like Spiderman.

It was bound to do well, and have good preorders.

Fuse that released last gen, it's sort of an "odd one out" situation because it was generic as fuck and felt nothing like an Insomniac game... but we generally don't speak of such travesty, lol.

I guess you tend to remember the good, and forget the "generic as fuck" games.
Some games can be so bad they are remembered though, those are the ones that hurt companies.

Id say Insomiac has a good record.

This is spiderman which is huge, developed by Insomniac, backed by Sony and marvel and the game is looking very promising with big hype behind it. Hard to imagine God of war would ever sell more.

But then God of war has turned into this gens the last of us so you never know. If Sony can pull this off it will really strengthen their ability to get more big exclusives. Because these type of games when given to the likes of EA and Activision turn into quick movie tie in cash grabs that don't get big returns.

"Marvel wanted to work with one of the big studios and specifically mentioned us. Sony said 'Hey are you guys interested in working with Marvel?' and we said 'Of course, but what character do they want us to do?' And they were like, 'Oh no, they want you to pick. You guys can have all the choice of which one you want.' It was like 'Oh wow. So huh, ok, that's an overwhelming decision,'" Stevenson recalls, laughing with the kind of childish glee someone has when they're given the keys to the candy store."

That all sounds so fanciful. Like they couldn't have possibly gotten a better offer. Respected, sought out, and given what appears to be carte blanche in choosing the character they wanted to work on. It's nice to hear about such goings on amidst the all the, sketchy, slimy, and borderline nefarious activities that are entwined with corporate gaming culture.

What train is that in the Op? I live in nyc and haven't seen that train. It looks pretty epic.

Wonder what MS would of made you do?

I can't help but wonder if Microsoft would have pitched a GaaS title.  I think they would value long term revenue projections over delivering a top quality stand alone work.

Great to know.
