Why are people here talking about Sony as if it's an American product? Sony and PS are Japanese as well as Nintendo. So if they are hurt by the import taxes in US, they'll move a portion of their production line to some country in Africa or India or Bangladesh or anywhere nearby with cheap labour even Pakistan. And keep the rest in china for Europe, Japan and the world. In fact Microsoft will do the same. Same with apple, Google, Samsung and every other major tech giant. If there were only two countries in the world than this might;be worked somehow. But right now tech companies have a lot of options and China's economy is also shifting to more service based stuff as the standard of life in china has increased exponentially in the last few decades. So in the end tech giants finding poorer countries to work in is inevitable. They were in china because China was so poor but now even China has started plans for outsourcing labour and they've been developing regions like Pakistan and countries in Africa to be China's China. I think this trade war is stupid and redundant. As one of the leaders of the EU said, it's stupid but we have to do it. It's the same with China. Ultimately I think this will hurt the US much more than it will hurt China. Also what happened to the trade wars with Mexico, Canada and the EU and when will you murican start a trade war with the rest of East Asia, south Asia, middle East, central Asia, Oceania, and Africa? Because it seems like isolationism is drumof's policy. Other countries should start targeting trumo based products so when it hurts the orange potato, then he will stop it. Remember Drumpf does everything to profit himself some way so look for that in all his policies

Just a guy who doesn't want to be bored. Also

Impose more tariffs! Trump will be selling this policy to his loyal supporters: Protect America and its jobs. Keep more jobs in America, make America great again!

I am curious to see how this plays out more than I'm concerned about more expensive electronics. Maybe it will suck for both countries and for some negotiations. Maybe we will rely on other countries more for exports.

If this tariff war doesn't end well for the US, we can always kowtow to China and beg them to go back to where we started.

Afaik Mac Book Pros are assembled in the US (not sure if all for the US-market are), but it's components obviously are largely sourced from China, many of which will be subject to tariffs. It's a high-margin product and tariff impact (on costs to produce a unit) might be at 10-15% overall, so Apple probably has the option to eat the tariff costs and suffer a bit of a reduction in margins, but it's unlikely they will, hence I'd expect a (percentually) moderate increase in price of new units of max 10%.

In refurbished units only some key components need to be replaced, so the tariff impact should be even less on these, yet a price hike of new ones will certainly also affect the demand/price of refurbished ones, prices of these units should see a small increase.

The original sin was in the beginning, accepting in the WTO, for Western companies greed, to easily access slave labour, China and other countries that don't respect just basic workers' rights, but neither basic human rights. Short sighted Western companies thought they could exploit that cheap labour, until companies in those countries started massively using it directly to kill Western competition. I'd say that the latter are reaping what they sowed, but Western workers were hit much heavier, as they cannot move their bodies, families and homes as easily as surviving Western companies can with their money and production.
