Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Who is currently playing Octopath ?...your thoughts about it?

Therion is a class character, learning HP and SP thief early on gives you such an edge in the game.

I tried the demo but I couldn't get into It. I just couldn't stand the dialogues.

OP: I'm only about 3 hours in, but i'm absolutely loving it so far. I should say that one of if not my most favorite game of all time is final fantasy 6. If you were gaming in that era and love those classic final fantasies, then i HIGHLY recommend this game. At least so far. It could end up being really short or have a terrible ending. I don't know that yet.
My only minor criticism so far is some of the aspects that have been streamlined. Instead of having to search for towns and objectives based on talking to NPC's, you have a map that usually is telling you where to go. And in stead of free roaming the world you are always traveling along a path. ( yeah i get it. octoPATH). They've also done away with front row/back row mechanics that were present in retro titles (as far as i can tell). Those are pretty minor complaints though. I was going into the game feeling stupid for spending $60 on a SNES game. But, I think $30-$40 for a brand new 16-bit final fantasy thats 30-60hours long would be worth it. Add in the voiceover work, the graphical embelishments that make the old graphics feel new and i think you could argue the extra cost.
As far as my bad experience with the demo is it wasn't demo enough :). What i mean is, i could get the feel, setting and character work of the game from trailers. The only thing i wanted in the demo was to battle and make sure this was an enjoyable turn-based battle experience. I didn't want to sit through story or dialogue and whatnot until i was actually playing the game. I didn't want to make the same mistake that i did with the xenoblade series. Cool lore but i hate the combat system.
Octopath, however, did not disappoint. There's a shielding system that rewards you for using enemy weaknesses against them, you can switch weapons on the fly during battle, and each character learns job based skills.which really helps them feel unique from one another. I do hope the difficulty ramps up as i continue, but yeah; 3 hours in and it's great so far.

It's amazing for a game with a main cast this big, there's no characters I hate, none I even dislike. Enjoying all the stories so far, I think Primrose's is the most engrossing, happy I started with her. Just found all of the job shrines. At 25 hours in, I've finished three chapter twos and can see myself taking a lot more time to finish the others. 60+ hours of playtime here. I paid full price for a digital copy, but it's been worth every cent.

Still waiting on my copy, but have been reading and watching some stuff on it, trying to hash out who I'm going to choose to start with. Think I'm between Primrose, Therion, or Cyrus. I like Primrose's backstory, though I already played her prologue in the demo. Also like the idea of gaining the edge in terms of wealth and taking what I can so Therion seems like a fun option, though I also dig the premise of playing a wise scholar in Cyrus, as I have a fondness of and background in history myself, and like his emphasis in magic attacks.

Its specially dedicated to the 16 bit era gamers, but of course to everyone Who likes rpg games, lets emphasize that the graphics are 2dhd and that the game uses unreal engine 4, I got the wayfarers edition and it has an added value, the músic is lovely, but lets recognice that it uses artificial Sounds and Instruments, I mean not real Instruments, but its ok, the story is very good and simple (i have 8 hours of play and 4 characters), the mechanics of battle are enjoyable and like every rpg game they have to be learnt step by step, you know, the singularities of every rgp game, the game hit most of the notes to me and I think that this game its a great addition to any serious gamer, when i complete the game i Will reconsider if its a must have title or even a másterpiece, I recommend it, and now im waiting for valkyria chronicles and viii lacrimosa.

I think you need to do some search mate, it IS orchestrate music

Yes  but i mean, the game in músic doesnt Sounds Orchestrated, not even the músic CD, maybe when we get the oficial soundtrack??? Look to the daws they use (i think its logic pro or pro tools), the compositions are great, specially the battle themes, but ok i May me wrong.

I was stupid and cancelled my pre order on amazon due to buying 4 PS4 games...I felt a sinking feeling learning how rare a physical copy was for the next two months.

However, I just wandered into gamestop while walking the mall today and saw they somehow had one copy left. I snatched it up and those PS4 games just went on the back burner.

I’m getting my ass kicked by Alfyn 3rd chapter’s boss.
35h in, havn’t been addicted to a game like that for a while. The game is great ! Soundtrack is really good, graphics are more impressive than you can think at first look, combat is intuitive, simple and challenging at some time and the overall presentation of the story is nicely done for something non linear.

40 hours in and just now doing my last chapter two (Therion), there's so much to do in this game! I'm having fun going around and stealing from everyone, I haven't touched the main objective for a couple of hours now

I'm really liking all of the characters too. It's making me want a combined 'Octopath Traveller' fighter in Smash Bros. Ultimate. Think about it, Smash usually has 8 costume changes per character (so all eight characters can be in), the job system in Octopath means each using the other's skills isn't far-fetched, and the range of skills would make for an awesome fighter (in theory).
