But the title clearly states "Nintendo's only big game", not "Switch's only big game", so this is a first-party themed thread.

Right, but if Switch had the kind of 3rd party support that PS4 gets, then I never would have made this thread. Why? Because as long as a bevy of new, quality, AAA games, comes out every year I'm good. But Nintendo just doesn't have that this year IMO. Even if you throw in Octopath, No More Heroes 3 and Valkyria 4, I've still only got four new (not a port, not DLC, not a late release) games for Switch this year.

Your expectations were too high if that's what you were thinking the Switch would receive, as for me I also have a PS4, Xbox One and gaming PC so I mainly use the Switch for exclusives.

I completely agree with you.
After Nintendo "mastered" HD development, merged their departments and basically stopped supporting 3DS, internally, for 2/3 years, you would expect a better result than one major game for the second year of a console.

Games made by their first party studios in 2018:
Labo (if you consider this a game and not a demo)
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Super Mario Party
Smash Ultimate

So, in 2019, instead a of having several new big games to help sell the console - and replacing the old system sellers - you'll have Smash to do the heavy work.

Yeah it's odd, especially now that they have an extra development pipeline who used to handle the handheld side of things to help crank out additional games. Like, what are these guys spending all this time doing? Luckily there's still a backlog of already released and future 2nd and 3rd party releases I want to pick up, as well as a sprinkling of indies, so I'm pretty set for awhile anyway. Though, not all Nintendo fans hold off so much on buying games like I do, and are going to be looking for more big name titles like Mario Odyssey, Zelda BoW, and Xenoblade. At least Octopath is finally coming later this year, and I'm actually sort of looking forward to trying the new Mario Party with my friends and family.

Let's not pretend the 3DS developers are suddenly going to be experts overnight in HD development. They may have had some time getting hands-on experience late in the Wii U's life, but projects/prototypes still have to be made. Monolith Soft had about two years of development creating Xenoblade 2, but it still needed a lot of resources and time to get it done on time for 2017.

Next Level Games is not gonna just put out a game in a year or two just because.
As you just noticed from E3, apparently the Fire Emblem team from Intelligent Systems needed a little more time to finish Three Houses so they opted for a 2019 release after announcing "look forward to a 2018 release." Hopefully, the Paper Mario team in IS are lending more of a hand in development along with developing whatever project they already started as well.

This thread is wrong.
Yes, Nintendo have Smash as their biggest game, but Pokemon, Mario Tennis, Mario Party and Kirby are also big games.
Also, the Switch does not have any game droughts: Runner 3, Okami HD, Dark Souls Remastered, Octopath traveller, Crash, Wolffenstein, Monster Hunter, Fifa, NBA2K18, Starlink, Team Sonic Racing, Megaman 11, Paladins, Fortnite,Tales of Vesperia, all the Wii U ports, the games i listed above, Nintendo Labo, Indies, etc, etc, etc.

Fixed it for you. But I agree with your second point, about how Switch is getting a flood of 3rd party support. They may be late ports, or multiplatform releases, but they are very welcome.

The elephant in the room: this thread makes no sense.

There, I said it.

That will be big in the sense that a good amount of casuals will buy, but those games look just plain awful lol
