Kathleen Kennedy will be making Star Wars movies for the next 10 years. Get over it.

3/4 Star Wars films she's done have done $1 billion+ like it or not. Marvel has 5 $1 billion+ pictures out of 19 films. That means 75% of the time they don't cross a billion.

Also to me someone who gets this worked up over a freaking kids movie is really a snowflake.

Also Solo is Lucas' concept and was in development before Disney even bought the franchise, it's the first time Disney used one of Lucas' ideas, and it stars a white male lead. So if anything the box office shows they need more Rey and Finn. TLJ suffers from that too, the second half of the film loses track of its main characters and turns into Luke Skywalker: The Old Fart Movie with the other characters basically put on pause.

The main fall out from Solo will be likely that solo Star Wars films like Obi-Wan and Boba Fett get shelved for now.

Facts are facts, and the box office totals ... just goes to show how you can spin that anyway you want.

Solo was a shitty concept from the get go (thanks Lucas) and wouldn't have done big business even 7 months after The Force Awakens when Star Wars fever was sky high. No one wants to see young versions of characters just for the sake of it being played by no name actors.

Disney got roped into making this because Lawrence Kasdan would only write The Force Awakens if he got to write this Solo movie. This is Lucas' idea and it's not surprising that it's not doing that well. The three other SW films they've gotten to make on their own all cleared 1 billion WW and are 3/4 highest grossing SW movies of the modern era.

Unless Solo continues the course and fan reaction to the first IX trailer is overwhelmingly negative since, you know, at the end of the day Disney is after money. You know what doesn't make money? Mocking your core fanbase.

And the previous title had just awful public perception. Now Solo is getting boycotted en masse. So yeah.

Also to me someone who gets this worked up over a freaking kids movie is really a snowflake.

You're getting worked up over people getting worked up, never mind the fact that snowflakes are typically characterized by people upset that they aren't receiving special attention for their special situations (like Tumblrites and the like), and are easily "melted" by reality. Most fans have expressed legitimate concern with the pushing of ideology and the lackluster-to-outright bad writing for both characters and story (except Finn, who is hands-down the best thing in Star Wars ever- just wish he wasn't completely misused).

Also Solo is Lucas' concept and was in development before Disney even bought the franchise, it's the first time Disney used one of Lucas' ideas, and it stars a white male lead. So if anything the box office shows they need more Rey.

Solo is also still being overseen by the people that most core fans want out. You know, the old woman who ridicules her core fanbase because they don't care about her feminist art project and just want to watch "cowboys-meets-samurai-in-a-space-opera".

The box office totals are the beginning of a trend that started with the breaking of trust over TLJ.

Solo is a fantastic concept that was handled by the worst group of people possible (though Donald Glover is still a fantastic choice for young Lando).

Being someone else's idea doesn't make it their failure. Lucas didn't direct or produce. He wasn't the president presiding over it. His idea, but not his work. Maybe you're the one who needs to look at facts?

It's really interesting to me how aggressively a lot of people are pushing the narrative that the Star Wars fanbase is rebelling against Kennedy's direction of the franchise because she's pushing an ideology. First off, Star Wars has always pushed an ideology. Maybe you didn't notice, but George Lucas had a lot to say, and he wasn't subtle either. That aside though, to me this is really a lot simpler than that. These movies are leaving a bad taste, because;

1. They are very, very poorly written. Both in the overarching plot, and the moment to moment action.
2. They are unwilling to be creative, and chart new territory, yet simultaneously disrespect key lore elements and characters.
3. Kennedy has shown extreme disregard towards anything critical the fans have to say.

The first point on its own, fans would likely be willing to forgive. After all, they did so for the prequels to various degrees. Combined with 2, and 3 though….you're asking for trouble. Chances are, Kennedy never really liked Star Wars. She doesn't get what people gravitate to about it, so all she seems to distill it down to is the visual elements. Once you get past that surface level stuff, she doesn't have a clue, and if you sat down with her and talked to her off the record with some truth serum, I bet she'd admit it too.

None of the shit you think is going to happen is going to happen because you have no clue how a Hollywood studio works, sorry to break that to you, but that's reality. Kennedy is not some newbie producer, she is one of the most powerful people in Hollywood that's just produced three $1 billion+ pictures in the previous three years, she is going nowhere. Sorry if the reality of that confounds you so, but it is what it is.

This is like some idiot saying the Nintendo president is going to get fired because of Labo not doing well ... I don't like Labo, but even I know that's a plainly dumb line of logic.

Solo was a crappy idea from George Lucas and Lawrence Kasdan that Disney made in order to get Kasdan to work on The Force Awakens.

I'm honestly curious in what that ideology that Lucas pushed in the OG Trilogy was.

When Kennedy continues to fail to produce the projected profits her overlords want, she's gone. And when she continues to blame her woes on the core fanbase she's supposed to be appealing to, she will continue to fail and eventually be replaced. Sorry if the reality of that confounds you so, but it is what it is.

Solo was a movie not directed or produced by George Lucas, so maybe you could bring up something relevant?

Lucas has said plainly many times the Rebels are the counter-culture/hippy movement of the 1960s, the Empire is a fascist government modelled after the right wing government of Richard Nixon.
