Forums - General Discussion - Stephen Hawking has Died at 76

Science will have to press on, but this is one of the biggest losses the community has had since Einstein. It will probably be a long time before someone else can have such an impact.

The living definition of "Do what you can with what you're given."

RIP

This news legitimately depressed me. His work ethic and passion for trying to reason some of the most unexplainable concepts in the universe always inspired me to work towards my own passion. Not to mention the fact that he formed his hypotheses while suffering from paralysis and was still able to effectively communicate with his peers. This post is a bit longer than it needs to be, but I will truly miss this man. R.I.P.

Oh no :(
I will always admire him
Rest in Peace.

Stephen Hawking, famed British Theoretical Physicist, has died at age 76 -family members confirm. He died in his home in Cambridge.

From article:

His children, Lucy, Robert and Tim, said: "We are deeply saddened that our beloved father passed away today.

"He was a great scientist and an extraordinary man whose work and legacy will live on for many years.” They praised his "courage and persistence" and said his "brilliance and humour" inspired people across the world.

"He once said, 'It would not be much of a universe if it wasn't home to the people you love.' We will miss him forever," they said.”

Background:

Stephen Hawking was a world renowned theoretical physicist who is widely known for his book A Brief History Of Time. I’d write more but I’m tired. And damnit, why’d he have to die?! Amazing person

A notable trait of this famed Professor was his ALS. To help donate against ALS, I’ll leave a link here: http://www.alsa.org/donate/

Because just like with nice things, we just don't deserve such wonderful people. The man gave everything up for the sake of what he loved.

He deserves everything. We do nothing...

HAIL TO HIM. MAY HE FIND THE ANSWERS HE COULDN'T FIND IN LIFE IN DEATH...

Was one of the actual great contributors with his work on Hawking Radiation out of the rest of the popular science community but I still found "A Brief Time in History" to be overrated, nonetheless among the greatest minds of all time ...

What sad news to wake up to. And on Pi day of all days!

Wow. So sad.

RIP

Very sad indeed. RIP.
