Next (3rd) Week will show the course at the box office for the following weeks. If Black Panther stays as strong as it is I could easily see it becoming the highest-grossing movie in the MCU so far. Infinity War really need to ramp up it's game to keep up with the Panther

Nah, I don't think it'll have the international strength to compete with either Avengers movie. It's tracking a bit below Civil War overseas, that's not good enough to beat them.

As far as I know it's not out yet in several countries, especially China, Japan and Russia are still missing. These are three of the biggest markets out there and the movie still keeps up pretty well overseas with the US gross.

Seems to be dropping quite quickly now, just as fast as TLJ (and the SW movie, on the daily comparison, will have quite a few good days on its second and third week because of the holidays) though we'll see yet how the next days end up. Yet it's still likely another 1 billion superhero movie, as long as foreign gross doesn't fall below 40% or so.

Black Panther has second highest second weekend of ALL TIME.

Does not equal

Seems to be dropping quickly

I'm comparing on a per country basis, and most seem to be slightly below Civil War for the opening weekend. It's below in France, Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Italy, Mexico, Spain. All those are pretty important markets, even though they're quite a bit smaller than China, but some are at least equal with Russia and Japan.

About your Civil War comment, consider this stat for domestic gross:

"Now, at $400 million, Black Panther is already the fifth-highest grossing MCU movie ever, and it’ll take only a few more days for the movie to surpass Captain America: Civil War ($408 million) and Iron Man 3 ($409 million) domestically."

Its about to beat the entire domestic gross of Civil War and Iron man 3 in about 2 weeks time.  Just stop to think about that.  We have about another 10 weeks to go...

But my comment was about international gross, not domestic gross. That was my point. It can't beat The Avengers by "only" doing incredible in the US - it has to be incredible internationally as well. Currently, it's "just" doing very well internationally, not incredible.

I'd be more than happy to be wrong though, I loved the movie.

I understand your point.  I am saying that the US has the potential to make up for their lower overall international gross.    We are all waiting with baited breath to see what happens in China,  but the domestic market will give it one hell of a boost.   Think of the US as Tifa in Advent Children where she throws up Cloud to kill Bahumat and think of China as Aerith (giving Cloud that extra nudge).

If BP continues to track below Civil War internationally, then BP will have to make more than 800 million domestically to beat The Avengers. So no, domestic gross can not make up for that deficit to The Avengers.

Maybe you misunderstood - BP will probably outgross Civil War worldwide. I was showing how it wouldn't beat The Avengers worldwide, because its international gross isn't strong enough - as it's below Civil War, which was already quite a bit lower than The Avengers. Maybe it was confusing, but that's what I meant.

Some people simply cannot handle a successful black IP. They must do everything they can to rationalize it away to appease themselves from the perceived threat to their racial identity and "culture".

Yeah, some of the goal post moving and laughable excuses for the high gross at the box office are just plain sad.

I'm just upset that Logan, probably the best superhero movie, didn't smash a bunch of records.

What the hell is with this discrimination against Mustelidae!?
