I don't understand why there are 240 replies to this?
The intricacies of third party exclusivity deals aren't well known among the general masses.

It's a funny reply by Kamiya who probably get asked this all the time... but it's a bit discouraging seeing topics that actually deserve more of our attention/discussion get 3 replies, while people are ranting endlessly on on a tweet from an understandably clueless casual gamer...

Yeah, Sony fans bought all except Bayonetta and it is the reason why Sony refused to fund it. Good, you are telling me exactly why Nintendo get Bayonetta is good for all because Sony doesn't care anyway. Sold less mean nothing, Nintendo is the one take the loss and they still continue with the third, no one can do that if the second sold much less than the the first outside Nintendo

Are you making this up? Or is there actual citation of this somewhere that Sony were offered with the opportunity, and that Platinum didn't negotiate with Nintendo first?

Look at my post in the other topic with links from interviews where Platinum says several publishers turned down Bayonetta 2 but Nintendo agreed to publish it.

As you said that I found this post on another forum, from someone with a different take on what that means:

Seriously, I just read through 5 pages of posts and not a single friggin one of you actually answered TC's question. Of course...TC's question is wrong anyway, but still, there is a relative answer.

Lets get started, first and foremost, Sony and Microsoft have absolutely nothing to do with Bayo 2 being produced by Nintendo, like nothing at all. I am sure they would have been thrilled to have the game on their respective systems...but alas, Nintendo beat them to the punch. so lets be super clear

Neither Sony or Microsoft were "turned off"of bayonetta 2, Nintendo just snagged the exclusivity first. So please don't lie to yourself by thinking those two companies didn't wish they had Bayonetta 2, they jumped on the chance to have Bayo 1 ported again didn't they? Yeah they did.

You see, SEGA, (not Sony or Microsoft ) were the ones paying for the production of Bayo 2. As you may be aware, Sega had some financial troubles around the time of Bayonetta 2's development, and due to this, they kept halting production of the game, with a desire to focus only on strong and long living brands ( like Sonic).

It was after being halted twice that Sega pulled the plug on Bayonetta 2 because they simply could not afford to pay to have it completed.

Almost immediately after Platinum games reached out to several publishers, Nintendo jumped in and gave Platinum all the money they needed to complete the game, with zero interference on the content of the game ( they even suggested that Platinum make the link tunic costume even more sexy than it was)

So there you have it...all your ridiculous justifications for why Sony or Microsoft "turned off" on Bayo 2, or why it didn't get made because of the sales of the first game are utterly false. It is an amazing game that Sony and Microsoft wish they friggin had on their systems, but instead they have to live with the poorly upgraded DMC HD collection...which hopefully, isn't as broken as it was on PS3.

Any other questions? No? Ok go back to being jealous of our awesome exclusivity deal with Bayonetta on Switch.

here is Kamiya's statements for you

"I think I have discussed this many times before but here goes… First of all, we [Platinum Games] are developers and receive support from publishers by making games that they request or suggest.
As for Bayonetta, we developed the game after signing a deal with SEGA. Later it was decided to also develop the sequel, so we started working on Bayonetta 2.
When development had progressed to a certain degree, in SEGA’s situation it turned into “This isn’t a good plan”, so development halted temporarily.
Without funding we didn’t have the possibility to continue development, but we wanted to get this partially developed Bayonetta 2 available to the public one way or another. So we offered it to various publishers, but as it is a big title, we couldn’t find a partner company. Finally, Bayonetta 2 was about to get terminated completely, when…
Nintendo came in and lent a hand and we were able to restart the development we so desired. Finally the game was released last week, so in five years, we were able to make Bayonetta 2 available to the public.
Knowing those circumstances, if someone is still angry for heading towards Nintendo, I wonder what’s the reason for that, wouldn’t you tell me in a way that is easy to understand?
As I have said earlier, if you want Bayonetta 2 on PS4 or Xbox One, how about trying to ask Nintendo… If Nintendo doesn’t say yes, it’s not going to happen… While you’re at it, try asking for Mario and Zelda too…"

Basically, "Sony and MS didn't turn down this awesome game because they WISH they would have gotten the chance to have it."

Now my take on Kamiya's comment is a bit different. If they went to different publishers to ask, Sony and MS don't seem unlikely to have been a part of them. However, the fact that it sounds like Nintendo either came to them, or were considered by Platinum very late could be an indication of Platinum originally not wanting to resort to asking the platform holders for help, possibly because it would limit their game to only one system.
So they may have started by contacting publishers that could help them get the game on as many systems as possible. And if Nintendo came into the picture at the very end, it's possible they didn't get around to discussing it with Sony or Microsoft yet. Or at least that they didn't reach an agreement yet.

Maybe they did, but this comment isn't conclusive, and even raises some questions, if this is what you're referring to.
The person I replied to claimed that this happened as if it were a fact.

Nintendo - of all people, agreed to fund it, that is already enough. So you know Sony and Microsoft haven't been a part of the difference publishers who Platinum went to ask? Are you a close friend of Kamiya? WOW

"both Microsoft and Sony had their chance"
"because Platinum wanted to add more features, it lead to Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo being approached to get the sequel across the finish line, in exchange for exclusivity."
" both Microsoft and Sony declined. Microsoft instead wanted an original IP for its system (and, indeed, they got it–Scalebound is coming to XBOX One next year), while Sony did not think Bayonetta was a good fit for the Playstation brand."

And then there was silence.

The irony of this post.
You were the one who claimed to know something that Kamiya never said. And when I point out that it seems probable but it's "inconclusive", you ask if I'm Kamiya's close friend? The pot calling the kettle black.

Where did I claim that I know this? I didn't. I showed a comment from another user to illustrate that there are different interpretations of this, but I also stated that I didn't share that posters conviction. Your reading comprehension aside, the whole point of my post was to avoid making assertions of assumptions by using absolute terms like you did.

Using terms like "I think" or "maybe" when something isn't established, instead of making up facts and spreading false information can go a long way.

Look the post below you, heh

I'm finding it, thank you

Are people really asking for this game on the PS4? People didn’t care about it on the PS3.

Oh dang! We need to thank the "PS4 Port plzzzz" guy that this exploded!

I did. Did you read the article? The quotes you are referring to come from an unnamed source.

But back to the part where I'm apparently 'friends with Kamiya' for saying that I think it "seems probable, but not certain", while you claimed to know what happened. What was your thought process here? I'm curious.
And just where did I claim to know any of it?

You should probably highlight that the rest of those quotes are not from Atsushi Inaba, but from an unnamed source.
Even though it's in the URL, it's easily missed and seems to have confused a few people. Possibly yourself as well, if that wasn't your intention.

I'm going to assume that you either didn't read the article, or you are of the opinion that any unnamed source will validate a rumor?
Next Emily Rogers rumor we get should silence people as long as there's an unnamed 'source'?
I don't think you believe that, so I'm thinking it's the former.

As I've said, I think it seems probable that Sony and MS were asked. But based on what Kamiya said, I can't rule out that they prioritized publishers who wouldn't restrict their game to one system, (not just because of sales, but because their established fanbase was on multiple platforms) and before they either sat down with Sony and MS, or before talks with them had reached an agreement, Nintendo offered them a generous offer they didn't want to pass up.

In these situations people shouldn't claim that something happened if we don't know that it did. That's just spreading misinformation. Even if I think it's a probable assumption. Add a "probably" or "I think" in there, and no harm no foul.

Okay, you have a point. The idea that Bayo 2 had been pitched to Sony and MS may be foggy. But actually, this changes nothing. It was still Nintendo who saved it and it's still Nintendo who owns the rights to decide where it releases on. Same goes for Bayo 3.

Good, glad he sticks to his guns and is upfront about it. Wish the Tomb Raider Devs had a similar attitude. Tell the fanboys how it is.
