Forums - Gaming Discussion - Soooo did the Xbox One X succeed?

To early to tell. Sales are great but possibly very front loaded.

It is definately more powerful than my Pro, and worth the price of admission.

The play anywhere feature is amazing because if it runs worse or better I can switch between my gaming pc or X. So far my X runs games better than my PC. One purchase, multiple copies.

As a gamer i think it is a success. The fact this holiday all of my game purchases have been on the X for the simple fact that it plays multi platform games at a better quality than my Pro demonstrates that power does matter....at least to me.

There are already way to many people posting multiple times to either defend or hate on it...(cough, Errorist76....cough).

So......this thread will easily dissolve into DAWARZZZZ.

It is succeeding in what it was meant to be, a premium console for their fans.

Sales are great right now, but it could be very front loaded. We'll just have to see.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

The sales are great and everyone has to remember the xbox one x is going to last for a while. Microsoft is no longer doing any generations. They will support two game systems at the same time. Also, I bet my left nut that Microsoft next xbox will have the name "xbox one" in it.

From what is being seen by DF and such though, that new machine isn't a 4k/60fps device either, there must be a point when people hold off a purchase beyond the promise of what it can do by the people aiming to sell it.

Buy a X1 for 1080p/60 get 720/900p/30fps

Buy an X1X for 4k... get a solid 1080p machine.

The thing is.... the machine is great for what it does, but it doesn't have the power to do what it was advertised as having, with "no compromises" it was just never built as such.

Was it advertised as a 4K/60 fps machine with no compromises? I can't remember that promise.

It was advertised as

  • the most powerful console so far (what it is... most multi-platform games look and/or perform better than on PS4 Pro)
  • the best suited console for 4K TVs (which is also correct, every resolution above 1920x1080 looks better in 4K, not only native 4K)
  • with native 4K support for some games (neither all games nor the majority of XBO games were promised for native 4K)

Having read over it I guess there was no promise of frame rate... just 4k, but I can't imagine anyone was expecting the 4fps mess that you get in pubg as "uncompromised" 4k on a premium console, I most certainly think that gamers would think anything below 60fps is compromised unless the games are designed around a lower frame rate where it doesn't impact gameplay.

But aye... it can get to 4k, but with a ton of compromises.

Let's see:

Lost launch npd whit pre-orders. Check for bad.
No major exclusives. Check for bad.
Much more expensive than rivals. Check for bad.
Most powerfull console in the world. Check for good.

Yeah... not a failure for now, but it's not doing well, far from a sucess.

Uhhhh, the x has more enhanced games than the pro that have been announced... Also dont know what you mean by you have a hard time telling which one is the more powerful console when 95% of the games that DF has shown preform better on the x. It's definitely the most powerful and advanced piece of technologie that the gaming market has ever seen

That's factually just incorrect. At X1X launch The Pro had 225 enhanced titles. The X1X had 70...both will have a few more by now but the gap will stay the same or even get bigger in the future. That's what one year head start does to you. You honestly shouldn't let Microsoft's shady marketing deceive you.

Your second statement is also incorrect. Most games on X1X have better resolution but don't look much different, just like Technarchy stated, simply because they are using the same assets. In terms of FPS most titles perform very similar  on Pro. About 1/4 of the titles even perform BETTER on PS4 Pro, according to Digital Foundry's comparison tests.

I wasn't counting in PSVR games since the x doesn't have any vr games and I was counting the announced games for both considering the x has only been out for a month. You have a source on that number?

I dunno where you heard that.

Playstation 4 has had it's biggest month yet. I dunno how much the X did for the One, but it didn't outsell the PS4.

Given that the console has been out over a month now and it has been beating the PS4 Pro in pretty much every comparison(not unexpected but still a huge benefit), has the Xbox One X landed with an explosion? Or a thud? We never did get proper sales statistics but what is your opinion? Is it a success for a $499 console?

PS I was talking to my brother about it the other day and it is $650AUS here in Australia, he mentioned how it was funny that the PS2 was about $750AUS when it launched 17 years ago lol. There has been a deflation of console prices it seems.

Just to clarify the X1X beats the PS4 in every comparison except the one that counts, actual sales units. If it beats it in sales, then it might be a success.

Seems like the X1X is off to a good start, though as of right now it's not really showing it's the most powerful console on the market.

Between the X1X and PS4 Pro, overall you'd have a hard time telling which is the more powerful unit based upon the X1X's current games lineup.

Hopefully that gap opens up in 2018.
