So your answer is none?

So you're saying no tablet with an HDMI port has never existed before? C'mon now

How many of them improve the graphics of games when they do this? How many of those tablets come with detachable controllers? How many of them feature local multiplayer on the go? And I'm not talking about games like chess where players take turns but stuff like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Snipperclips. How many of them are as quick and seamless as the Switch for gaming? How many of them have gyro controls and a motion sensor camera? How many of them have HD rumble?

And if the Switch is just a tablet then why didn't tablet gaming take off long before the Switch arrived?

Well, look it like this. MP3 players existed before iPod. Vectrex had an analog stick in 1982. The idea was there before but some companies execution of some ideas is what makes something work in a neat package everyone looks at and says I get it. Apple is known for taking existing ideas and putting them in a package that is streamlined. Nintendo isn't that different(tho they have introduced true innovations like the Dpad). Nintendo also has the advantage of their first party games always make great use of the hardware and controllers that again make people go..ah, I get it. If an idea alone what made a system a success then Game.Com would have had DS like success.

The dock is a scaler, it doesn't "improve" graphics

How many of those tablets come with detachable controllers?

How many of them feature local multiplayer on the go?

How many of them have gyro controls and a motion sensor camera?

Literally all tablets have some sort of gyro controls or an accelerometer in them

I'm not sure why this is an argument, but there's nothing new that Nintendo has brought here to the table. The Switch is a nice product, but nothing here is reinventing the wheel. Not trying to diminish what it is, but honestly, would you have paid attention to the product if it didn't have Nintendo's backing behind it? The strength of Nintendo are its games. I remember when Nintendo fans said they didn't want a Vita because no one wanted to play a home console on the go. Well, here we have a home console on the go, and it's okay now. The Nintendo brand, games and dominance over the handheld market has made Switch a successful product.

As a predominantly PlayStation gamer I'll probably get judged for this, but I felt like this generation Xbox lost its identity. On the 360 it had its own identity and felt authentic. If MS can recapture the magic of last generation, then there is definitely room for 3 major console.

How many hybrid consoles do you know?

When all is said and done, it's a tablet. Just one that's dedicated to Nintendo products.

I'll have to agree with Alkibjhnfdksjfbdsk on this one.

Can you dock tablets into TV's? Do tablets have motion sensing controllers with HD rumble?

The switch is obviously more than a tablet and is doing unique stuff. It's not that hard to see.

It doesn't matter what the dock is, what matters is that the graphics improve when docked versus undocked (watch Digital Foundry on Super Mario Odyssey for example).

That's a third party peripheral for an Ipad that you have to buy separately (from a shady company like Game Vice) . The Ipad and its games aren't designed with physical buttons in mind. The controllers also don't work separately from each other like the joy cons do.

How about you actually read that article? Most of those games require people to bring their own device and game or are turn based. Nothing as complex as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Almost nobody wanted a Vita because it only plays obscure Japanese games and small non-demanding indie games. It barely has any games that can be labelled as "home console experiences on the go". The only games that come to mind are the ones Sony made in its first year (Killzone and Uncharted).

So a system that is well on its way to outsell the snes isn't successful? Okkaayyy......

They don't need to beat PS to be successful, you know...

They kinda do though. They are not Nintendo, they dont have Mario or Zelda to sell mediocre hardware. Sony is dominating at the best time possible and will probably deal the death blow next gen. Nintendo will continue to release completely different devices with each generation and sell based on Brand loyalty

Can confirm.
I didn't buy a Wii U because it didn't say Nintendo on the box. Now that the Switch says Nintendo on it, people are buying it. Simple as that.

It really seems like no answer will ever be good enough. So, you got me man, Nintendo invented the detachable controller, the tablet, local multiplayer, gyroscope controls in tablets, video games, Japan, earth, the universe etc etc. It's like talking to a North Korean and telling them Supreme Leader didn't invent the car. The Switch is god church and all others bask in its glory. Praise be!

If you have no arguments it's better to just say nothing.

Besides, if the Switch really was a tablet it would be a pretty shitty one considering it has no internet browser, streaming apps (besides Hulu in the USA), social media apps, youtube app, music streaming apps, etc.

It's a dedicated hybrid console, the only one of its kind.

And now the creme de la creme. It's not a tablet because it doesn't run iOS or Android. UGGGGGGH. I mean, what if it got homebrewed to? And yes, you're making the Switch worse than it is, defeating the purpose of the conversation
