Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo plans to make 25 million to 30 million Switch game consoles next fiscal year

30M is a pretty high bet.

Even if the low end of this prediction is true (25 million) that's insane. That is like peak wii levels. If they hit the high end (30 million) then now we are in peak DS levels which is even MORE insane.

So Nintendo spill it. What in the world are you releasing in 2018 that will cause sales to skyrocket to such a degree? I can't think of any title by itself that can make sales go this high. It has to be a combination of big titles. Is it Pokemon + Animal Crossing + 2D Mario + New IP? Now I cannot wait to see what is at the January Direct (I predict a January Direct).

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true

I new ip im still surprised to this day they havent made is nintendo universe! I mean super smash bros but a story world in comparison to KH....

Thinking about it, if they were to start selling dockless Switch systems around the same price as a traditional handheld, then eventually bundle them with AC, Pokemon etc.; they would then have a full-fledged option for the more dedicated handheld audience, removing the barrier of the high entry price point.
They would then be selling both the console/hyrbid version, and a dedicated handheld version, but with the benefit of a shared and stacked library of games. It would almost seem logical that they could sell at twice the rate of a normal system.

A very ambitious target nonetheless, and I'd still have my doubts like most.

Just for the record, potential plan for Nintendo to make 25-30m consoles doesnt mean they aiming to ship same number, they could plan to make 25-30m but to ship 20-25m.

And why would Nintendo keep 5M in inventory? To Have losses?

Holy crap, that's... plenty.

Edit: which is to say, I doubt they'll sell anywhere near that much. 15, 20 million, maybe. Anything above that is quite unrealistic imo.

People said the same about 14m this fiscal year, also making that much doesn't mean they'll ship that much.

They obviously have a key ip plan for next fiscal year to make that much very likely its Animal Crossing.

What will they do with the several millions not shipped?

Making 25-30 million consoles in a fiscal year isn't the same as selling them in that time frame.

Still, that's a LOT!
Not even the Wii sold that much, i believe.
They better have a price cut, Pokémon and some other big games/thingy in the pipeline to sell a good portion of those 25-30 million consoles. Or more, seeing as they could even increase it.

Same question, what would Nintendo do with it?

What kind of artificial demand/supply is this!?

Pipedreams...

With lean manufacturing and just in time philosophy I would like to know what kind of company producing 25M products would keep 5M in the inventory on any selling cycle... that is just to much. The ideal world is to have 0 inventory and real world is to have as close to 0 as possible, no sane company buff their inventory unless on specific situations (like some extra to prepare for seasonality or in the case of Brazil sky high inflation).

They have said that they are going to drive for every family member owning a Switch, so expect games that encourage cross-system play.

To be honest i didn't think about numbers. Those were already too high...
More than 25m next year really seems to high when you take into consideration how they already sold the console to Mario, MK, Zelda and Splatoon fans. What's left is AC and Pokémon fans (talking about the heavyweights).

That's why i can only think of 4 things (a mix is also possible): price cut; new model; Pokémon and a bunch of system selling IPs; some new tech they are yet to reveal.
Even then, it's got to be a few things mixed together to reach those results.

To prevent possible droughts, also they itself said they planning to produce more units than they intend to ship, also 5m for system thats popular and thats sell great is nothing.

So much negativity...

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

AC goes in the casual games for me, and maybe some Switch Sports? Mario Party 11?
