Sweden too had asylum requests at the level of 25,000 per year on average for a whole decade before the infamous crisis year 2015. During these years, when we factor relatives and stuff (maybe 40,000 people) being added to those 25,000, believe it or not our migration was +100,000 yearly. Now 25,000 of those might have been on some work permits and student permits, but the vast majority is still from the thirld world. Bottom line is 100,000 third world migrants added each year.

Both Sweden and Austria is slowly going back to the pre-2015 levels with ~25-30000 asylum requests and in both countries there's a (deceptive) public sigh of relief, totally ignorant of the fact that even pre-2015 the migration influx was completely unrealistic and unsustainable.

Despite that the primary asylum requests seem relatively low at 25,000, with relatives + students + work permits, you will still end up with a 100,000 number yearly in Austria too.

You know, the statistics for Austria in 2015 show 91k migrants who had citizenship in EU countries or Switzerland. So you are right that the number of migrants is over 100k yearly if everyone gets added.

Okay, lots of EU citizens counted in those numbers currently. Good. But I guess we will see a clearer picture in a couple of years of how many migrants are actually from the thirld world and not EU members, and I think your stats will be similar to the Swedish stats when all is said and done.

My thoughts on empires are that they never work out. Too many peoples and languages, and the population that forms the majority will inevitably be perceived as oppressors of minorities or not caring enough about the needs of them. Once an opportunity arises for one portion to break away, other portions see their chance and try to quickly follow the path into independence.

I think the reason why Russia was able to retain so much of its territory is because the Siberian regions conquered were extremely sparsely populated, and it was mainly Russian migration into those regions that boosted the population. The 14 Soviet Republics that separated were more densely populated, however, which meant that the Russians weren't able to assimilate the peoples as easily.

An interesting period was the Russian and Japanese War.

This thread has gotten much more activity than I expected I thought nobody was going to post in here.

Every thread that mentions nazis gets a lot of traction.

I didn't even say anything about Nazis though, unless mentioning Kaliningrad Oblast being former German territory counts.

You don't have to say it when someone else does it.

Well, maybe he can make a thread on the territorial evolution of Germany if he wants to some day.

Russian Empire is far more epic. Just yet another example of the amazing speed that European imperialism can do its work! Soviet Union was kinda crpapy, generic, and made Eastern Europe into a poor shithole (if my mother is to be believed). Also, pre-WW1 Germany and Austro-Hungary = shitting pants.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I don't necessarily advocate "nazism" and the Holocaust if I wish that Germany had won WW2, just like someone doesn't necessarily advocate communism and the Gulags just because they think the Soviet Army beating Hitler's Germany was important for the outcome of the WW2.

It is true that Finland heroically managed to fend off the Russians in order to preserve our independence, but at a huge cost in loss of manpower, vital territory and enormous war reparations to the Soviet Union for decades to come.

If instead Operation Barbarossa would have been more successfull, Finland would have been able to not just re-conquer and keep the areas that the Soviets unjustly laid claim to in the Winter War of 1939, but we would also have been able to correct a hitorical injustice by liberating all the Finnish tribes living in the Soviet Union, which was about 1 million Finnish people who would have prefered to live in a Finnish state rather than Communist Russia.

Yeah and kill off 100  200 million Russians, Belarusian and other slavic people. What an unjust.

Why arent you liberating your own sami people first if you think you have a moral compass?

Fixed that for you.

Of course an interesting topic is ruined due to a man who allegedly isn't a nazi but wishes germany won (the fuck does that mean?)

Maybe this conversation would improve if Professor FuckAnyoneWhoIsntEuropeanWhite realized it'd take Austria decades to become a minority, even if we assumed they magically took in twice the amount of migrants than austrians born there

And for god's sake, wishing Germany won? How the fuck is that not ban worthy statement?

I have no love for communism but there is no denying that Russia was a superpower during the Soviet Union and transformed the country into an industral powerhouse. The Russian Empire was backwards, in a constant state of financial crisis and just as corrupt as the Soviets, it started to get better towards the end but it was too little too late.

As someone with roots in Austria-Hungary, I can't think of a reason why you would shit your pants, unless if you meant shit your pants laughing on how much of a trainwreck that whole experiment was.
