Yoshi Story was the first game I ever played that deeply disappointed me.

After the balls-out awesomeness of Yoshi's Island, a next gen sequel sounded amazing, but it was a step down in virtually every way. Twenty years later it still stings. :(

Around the Network

Conduit 2 and Sonic Lost World. Both are at 63 on metacritic

Conduit 2 is a weird one because everyone agrees it's better than the first game, but it scored noticeably lower.

Sonic Lost World I think was unfairly criticized for being different from Colors and Generations. While those 2 games are both better than Lost World, I think LW is better than every other 3D Sonic before them. There are some levels that are terrible, but fewer than in other games like Adventure 2's knuckles levels

To kick things off:

Cruis'n USA. A fairly obscure racing game on the N64 that I picked up dirt cheap in a bargain bin long after the N64 had ceased to be relevant. To be honest, I got it as a joke.
Indeed the game is every bit as terrible as it sounds:

1. According to the game, about half of the parts in the US that are notable to visit are in California, as that's where the first half of the game is located. Once you leave California, they start reusing music, and many of the levels look the same as others.
2. The Red Wood forest level is one of the lowest framerates you'll ever experience on the N64.
3. You can apparently run down red-woods with ease, but palm-trees are invincible.
4. Cars always land on their feet.
5. Every race ends with this really awkwardly writhing woman with a trophy. I think she's on drugs.
6. All races are easy, within 4 seconds, you leave the competition in the dust, and not see them for the remainder of the race.
7. The soundtrack is seriously one of the awesomest and most disgustingly cheesy of all time.
8. Parties always occur on the roof of the white house, even when they include cattle.

This game puts a smile on my face to play.
It currently holds a score of 50.63% on Gamerankings

Behold! Cruis'n USA in all its glory... yeah-hah, whoahoahoah!

Fun Fact #1, the woman with the trophy at the end of the races was a real porn star (I forgot her name tho)

Fun fact #2, in the arcade version of the game the woman was in a bikini top instead of regular clothes in the N64 version

Knack, White Knight Chronicles, basically every Dynasty Warriors game :P

Knack.

Around the Network

Gat Out of Hell - short, but fun like usual

Risen 2: Dark Waters - RPG, what's not to like except the shitty combat

Risen 3: Titan Lords - same as above

Murdered: Soul Suspect - could do without the combat, otherwise fine

Omerta: City of Gangsters - too easy, but otherwise fine

Master of Orion 3 - complicated AF, but still fun

I actually found a game below the 65% threshold (if you count the PS2 score): The Simpsons Road Rage.

It's a Crazy Taxi clone with a lot of great Simpsons fan service and pretty solid split-screen head-to-head gameplay.

Holy crap! I liked that one too. I always wanted to explore Springfield, and this game brought that experience in a very interesting way... Pretty sure they got sued by Sega for it too. Although I am a little surprised by the low scores, unlike Cruis'n USA, I didn't actually think this one was terrible... Perhaps the lack of depth/modes put reviewers off.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I dunno if I would agree it's better than the first one; it's certainly more varied, but also much more uneven; tonally it's all over the place, the framerate was less consistent, etc.

The first game was a game that was functional but unremarkable outside of its graphics and controls, the second was a wildly mixed bag that bettered the original in some ways but fell short of it in others.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers games are down to the low 60s (the originals are just over 65).

These games probably scored poorly because of the repetitive gameplay and loot system. I really liked the games, the stories were really sweet and I didn't mind the gameplay, I just had fun dungeon crawling for hours.

Ditto.

It falls under the 65 score (landing at 57), so I can post it here

Akiba's Trip, likely seen by the general audience as trashy looking weeb crap, I actually see it as one of my, if not my only guilty pleasure game. The graphics are pretty basic and low, the gameplay is simple, the story is dumb, and the game mechanics are stupid and creepy, but dang do I love this game. Something about it's sheer silliness I find enjoyable. I guess a big reason why I find it fun is because it lets me do such silly things not really seen in any game really. Talking about it now, I wouldn't mind booting it up again and mess around some, beating the clothes off everyday people.

Still remember the time you said "There's something oddly satisfying with beating people up and taking their clothes off".
