Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Super Lucky's Tale: A True Platformer

We have gotten a few platformers this gen but none of them have brought  that old school platforming experience that we all have been really wanting.

Super Lucky's tale looks to be that game that finally does and has become one of my most anticipated games this year.

I think one of biggest problems of trying to be an old school retro platformer is actually succeeding and then the gameplay feels outdated and played out. I think for a 3D platformer to succeed in 2017 it needs to be fresh and innovated.

Although I think this does looks good and could certainly be a good game, I'm afraid Super Mario Odyssey is the 3D platformer that's got all my attention.

I'm glad you're excited!

But what does Super Lucky's Tale provide that's not on offer in other recent platformers?

Nice. Looking forward to it.

I'd mellow your expectations. We have had a fair number of games recently that have looked to be that game we have desired for so long (Yuki Laylee for example) but end up not living up to hype, bad controls, camera, ect.

Also try to leave out things like "true" or something in the titles. It's like saying someone is the next Michael Jordan or something in sports. It's just going to automatically piss off a ton of people. Also it turns up the expectations to an unachievable level. You see it all the time. Fable the Zelda Killer. Killzone, the Halo killers. Ect.

Never call something a killer or a "true" game until its out and played.

On a plus its only retailing for $30, also kind of gives me fears of it not being amazing but everything I have seen looks pretty decent but I expect thats what we will get, a solid 7

Still looking forward to playing it!

Meh, looks kinda mediocre to me. After Yooka Laylee my patience for truly old school platformers is wearing thin. I like the character design, mainly because it's essentially Tails with one tail...the graphics are okay. I might pick it up, Hardly my most anticipated.

Literally, LITERALLY, Crash bandicoot. Cannot get more old school than that.

Looks beyond generic.

Considering quite a few platformers are already coming out this year, and some of them are actually quite unique, I might have to pass this up. Even though I really want to play every major game this year.

Looks okay, but I still have to finish Lucky's Tale on my Rift.

And since Super Lucky's Tale is designed in a VR-friendly way, I will wait until a VR version is announced or officially declined.
