Forums - Sales Discussion - Why would Doom come to Switch?

I understand that Switch is doing very well and that some indie games have done better on it than all others platforms combined. The 2 indie games that have done so well on Switch are Nintendo-like games. One like 2d Mario and the other like Zelda. However, a game like Doom is likely doomed on Switch. I think Skyrim will underperform too. These are not kiddie type games. I like Sonic, so don't think I don't like any kiddie games or that I'm insulting anyone.

My point is that adult oriented games will almost certainly fail to succeed on Switch. Of course I could be wrong. We will see. I want to see how Dragon Ball Xenoverse sells on Switch worldwide. I know it has done well in Japan. I will watch these games and more. I predict failing sales.

If Switch does actually succeed in 3rd party games like these, it could be as big a hit or bigger than PS4 in America. I just dont see it happening long term, though. It already will beat PS4 in Japan as long as Nintendo, and 3rd parties, can keep rolling out a lot of games. Europe is PS4 country, though. Regardless of which one wins worldwide, it will be an exciting sales war!

Why would adult games fail on the Switch? According to Nintendo's demographic research, the average Switch player is ~30.

The Switch is a lot more focused on young adults than kids. Games like Zelda and Xenoblade have cartoony graphics, but that doesn't mean they're as 'kiddie type' as Animal Crossing and Nintendogs.

Yes, these 18+ third party games look totally different from Nintendo games, but I'm sure that there will be a fair amount of Nintendo fans who enjoy these games too.

Because multiple reasons.

1. Switch is easy to develop for and these days porting a game is much easier and cheaper then it ever has for every system.

2. Bethesda actually wants to take multiple chances on the Switch

Also I actually think this port could do decently in terms of sales. Like there isn't a single FPS on Switch yet, this was one of the if not the most talked about pieces of news during the direct. Like the doom and wolfenstein ports were among the top post on reddit when they were announced so there seems to be a fair bit of hype for these ports especially since you can take them on the go.

Also the Switch's main market is core young adult gamers like look at the marketing you rarely see kids and familes in Switch ads but young college age adults instead. Those people are among the most likely that would buy doom espically a portable verison of the game.

Because companies with actual buisness experience in the video game industry have faith that a port will give a return on investment. Because the preconcieved notions of forum users - thank god - don't dictate the game industry. Because people who revel in the idea of "kiddie games" or age brackets, while unironically having a profile pic of a character from a young teens cartoon show do not reflect the majority of consumers.

C'mon now. Why do you have to make such predictably negative posts? You say that people don't like you but reflect a constantly negative attitude. No one hates you, you're ok, this shtick just gets old.

Also how is an Xcom strategy game, a third person shooter, and a 3D fighting game "Nintendo like" games? What is considered "Nintendo like" is chanhing all the time since we have products like Kingdom Battle, Pokken or Splatoon. These series arent successful just because Nintendo but because they represent parts of the market not addressed by other games, which is what Doom will do for Switch.

Im 31 and own a switch, what makes you think people like me wont buy games like doom? I cant wait for games like LA Noir to be portable

As seen by the marketing campaigns executed by Nintendo... the Switch is definitely targeted towards young adults who have a busy lifestyle. The whole core of the console was executed with this core audience in mind... so I don't think Nintendo is going to want to ignore them. I'm certain the age demographic that Nintendo was previously accused of marketing towards (little kids).. have moved on to other devices (smartphones). This console is also not made for teenagers (who already have PS4s and Xbones... along with smartphones). I'm willing to bet that the largest audience for the Switch is ages 23-37. This console specifically appeals to older Nintendo fans and busy gamers... so having a game like Doom (which has had a history on Nintendo consoles and is a very enticing game to take on the go) is beneficial to the Switch. It won't sell the same amount of copies as the PS4 version but it has a chance to both scrape by the Xbox One version and be considered a profitable enough investment for 3rd party companies to make games on the Switch. Nintendo seems to be trying to fix what they have been criticized for and I believe there will be enough fans who buy the game.

Zelda, Bomberman, Street Fighter 2, Blaster Master, Neo Geo, etc. Doom and Wolfenstein fit right in with that crowd.

I'm gonna assume you think everyone who owns a Switch is 13 and younger or something?

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Why call them kiddie games? Games like Sonic Mania appeal to everyone.
