Forums - Microsoft Discussion - XB1X to have Intelligent Delivery

XB1X will use Intelligent delivery to help reduce download time and help with storage space.

This isnt just a slim and more powerful console than the S, this is a console designed with next gen features and its good to see they are going all out on all departments for this console and not just the GPU/CPU boost.

Intelligent Delivery is a good thing to have on consoles with games hitting the 100gig size.

So common sense is now a marketable feature that's probably supposed to be considered innovative as well? Obviously this is great news, but this should be considered a basic feature and services benefitting from this but not supporting this should receive some backlash.

EDIT: Also, that's an annoyingly long video for what could be described really shortly as text. This is exactly the kind of stuff I hate videos for.

Intelligent delivery? I call that ordering physically from Amazon.

It works with discs, too. Currently, we still install the whole disc. With the "Intelligent Delivery" option, we only install what we intend to use.

I'm not sure how innovative it is, though. With certain games, you have the option of downloading the online or just the campaign. Other games, you can just download one game in a collection instead of all of them. Not exactly the same but still an evolution of  an idea that we already had. I even recall having a second disc of "HD textures" for Dragon's Dogma DA--but that was probably because the whole game didn't fit in a single Xbox 360 disc.

Regular Xbox One too. I hope older games support this. I would love to get rid of Halo 5s SP since i dont play that part of the game anymore.

sectioning off things that aren't useful for everyone (like voice overs or ultra textures etc) is welcome and I'll give credit to MS bringing that system wide if it gets to be standard on consoles

but in the PC space this has been done for decades

Or I can just uninstall the games I'm not playing.
Xbox still can't change internal hard drives right?

Interesting feature though,

Nah. I don't think you'll ever be able to.

I wonder why, though--not that I want to. It was an option for the 360 though you had to use the ones they sold. Now you can use multiple externals at a time but you can't swap out.

Oh Installshield wizard is finally coming to consoles!

It would be nice if there was an option to leave fmv on the disc and run it from there instead of it taking up hdd space.

It's not a difficult feature to add.
The main issue I have with internal storage that cannot be swapped out is in the event of a failure. In the Xbox One's case it becomes a useless brick.

The external drive support however is absolutely fantastic and allows you to move your entire games library instantly and with ease.

That said, I'm an uninstaller so I don't need either.

I am the opposite.

I prefer to have everything installed, I have almost exceeded 4 terabytes worth of storage, so it will be interesting to see how much the Xbox One X will make my storage consumption explode.

I concur. We have to put the disk in anyway, might as well.
