Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA : Gaming will become access-based like Spotify and Netflix

It would be terrible unless somehow all developers agree to use the same service to distribute their games (and good luck with that).

Having to buy 2 or 3 consoles per generation is manageable but subscribing to 7-8 developer streaming services would suck.

Streaming with interrupts & commericals put in, and its 9.99$ pr month?

No thanks.
Streaming isnt going to work for gameing anytime soon.

also this doesnt work without everyone haveing unlimited bandwidth access (from internet provider) and a fast hookup.

Even then, what does it really save the company? they still need to build the hardware to play the games, which probably costs them as much as 300$ pr user.
At 9.99$ pr month, its going to take along time for it to pay itself back.

Its just not a model I think is smart or going to work soon.

Data caps & input delay/lag = nope.

I ll take a hardware console over that any day.

Any publisher which thinks they can charge me to rent a game via a streaming service INSTEAD OF buying a disc or digital download can go suck one. If I can choose that's fine, but if EA or any other publisher think they can remove the option to purchase a game, instead shoving renting via a streaming service down my throat at any point in the future they'll will never get a single cent from me.

No your games will EA, because you want to have total control to charge what ever you like

Ignoring what effects game streaming will have on the industry, I just think it's comical that they're toting touchscreens as your controller. That's going to be hilarious.

This is inevitable. But I believe it can coexist with how we play games today.

^ this.

There will be buycotts simply because that is not a direction most gamers want it to go in.

I have no doubt that the market will go that way, and sadly, most people will end up playing streamed versions of GTA, COD, Madden, ect. via their iOS or Android devices.

As long as their is an option though, I will continue to buy all of my movies, music, and games, even if they are digital copies, and play them on devices that can run them locally.

One thing to note. This is definitly coming for traditional games. We have reached a point where basically any game made for traditional displays, can be scaled to work on any new device. However, when we look at VR, I think we are a long long way from making this a reality, because it is already hard enough to reach the required frame rates, refresh rates, and input response rates required for a comfortable expereince even in a local and wired expereince.

So, basically, if you want the best expereince, locally rendered games are still going to be leading the way for a long time. Our mobile lives may finally see some progress for the first time since 2011 though.

I wish EA became all access-based, so they can finally crash and burn.
