Theres a reason why producers are the ones that go on stage on best picture awards, the movies are realy the producers view, the directors are the ones that are hired to execute those views, if they decide to change everything and have things their way producers are more than right to sack them. Usualy producers and directors work together to find a middle ground but the last say is always the producers, and if they can't get along the director will always be let out since he is an employee. If a director wants to make the movie he wants he should also produce it.
I don't get why ppl get so mad directors are being sacked when they are trying to go off the rails and change everythign in a movie, imagine if an actor decided hed not do anything the director said and would go around chaging every line, every scene hes in, the essence of is character, then the director eventualy has had enought and recast that part because the old actor just wasn't listening, no one would side witht the actor. Its the same idea here, the producers are in charge of the movie as a whole, they decide the story that will be told, the directors find a way to tell that story as best as possible, its not their place to completly change the plot, the intended feel, the overall view of the movie. As I said before if a director wants free rain either find a producer whos OK with it, or produce the movie himself.
And ppl are funny, how is Lucasfilms in shambles when it hasn't had 1 fumble yet, all 3 major projects so far, 2 movies and Star Wars Rebels have been comercial and critical sucesses.
