Forums - Movies & TV - Colin Trevorrow Exits Star Wars Episode 9; Disney will announce new Director at a later date

Treverrow probably told Disney the truth. That The Force Awakens sucked!

Yeah, before VII came out, I watched IV and V again; after I watched VII, I watched VI, VII, then I-VI again.

I loathe I-III for many reasons, but re-watching the original trilogy (in tandem with VII) made me question so many of the bizarre scene cuts and dialogue. In hindsight, it was probably my nostalgia that allowed me to gloss over such directorial ineptitude, but it made the inanity of I-III decidedly less surprising (as Lucas shed the directors from IV-VI). Nothing will shake my fandom, but JJ is just better at his job than Lucas.

Hmm, are there any bizarre scene cuts and dialogue you'd like to highlight?

You'd have to watch them with me lol.

If you do re-watch them, keep an eye out for scenes that continue on for seemingly no reason or throwaway lines that are effective non-sequiturs. When I watch them as critic and not fan, they do make me cringe. Like I said, it won't affect my fandom, because I can't imagine ever not being a huge SW nerd.

Why not just mention the scenes and throwaway lines?

I think it's high time Steven Spielberg directed a Star Wars film. Failing that, Rian Johnson might be a good pick if Episode VIII is great.

Because it's across 3 movies that I would need to re-watch and catalogue.

To his credit, Lucas was very self-aware and open about his skills (or lack thereof): https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/102466/why-didn-t-george-lucas-direct-the-entire-original-trilogy

With that kind of attitude, he would never make it as a politician lol.

Lucasfilm is really in shambles under Disney. Not the biggest deal to lose Trevorrow, but it speaks poorly of the freedom artists are allowed to have with the franchise.

Sounds like there is a reason that Episode VII felt like it was written by a board room.

At least 1 scene and/or line of dialogue? Preferably from Hope or Empire, my opinion of Jedi is not terribly high.

Theres a reason why producers are the ones that go on stage on best picture awards, the movies are realy the producers view, the directors are the ones that are hired to execute those views, if they decide to change everything and have things their way producers are more than right to sack them. Usualy producers and directors work together to find a middle ground but the last say is always the producers, and if they can't get along the director will always be let out since he is an employee. If a director wants to make the movie he wants he should also produce it.

I don't get why ppl get so mad directors are being sacked when they are trying to go off the rails and change everythign in a movie, imagine if an actor decided hed not do anything the director said and would go around chaging every line, every scene hes in, the essence of is character, then the director eventualy has had enought and recast that part because the old actor just wasn't listening, no one would side witht the actor. Its the same idea here, the producers are in charge of the movie as a whole, they decide the story that will be told, the directors find a way to tell that story as best as possible, its not their place to completly change the plot, the intended feel, the overall view of the movie. As I said before if a director wants free rain either find a producer whos OK with it, or produce the movie himself.

And ppl are funny, how is Lucasfilms in shambles when it hasn't had 1 fumble yet, all 3 major projects so far, 2 movies and Star Wars Rebels have been comercial and critical sucesses.

Tall order, but I will try to do this for you.
