So, let me get this straight... after getting crushed this gen, and not putting out ANY games in 2017, Xbox thinks it's a GOOD idea to FORCE people to shell out MORE money for an Xbox One?

Wow. That is just some ass backwards marketing, right there. How do they expect this strategy to pay off?

What? Microsft isn't forcing anyone to do anything?

The Xbox one S is priced at the same level currently and will most likely drop even more in price, the Xbox one S is also a much better value for consumers because of the better framerates and UHD player and better controller so I don't know what you have smoked

the original PS3 model was also replaced by the slim, xbox 360 models where replaced by other models, DS was replaced... so on and so on

I guess MS is trying to narrow down people's choices between the xbox one s and xbox one x. Was the original xbox one cheaper than the xbox one s or something?

It was, but only because the majority were preowned units.

This is a smart move honestly. It's similar to when Nintendo pushed out the original DS and eventually had the DS Lite and DSi as the only choices. no point in the original if a better version exists that's the same price

It's a smart move for MS but it gives consumers less options. Well, I hope that MS does well enough.

How wasn't the old XBO completely replaced by XBO-S already ? :O

They used the original model to sell cheaper, the original model was also more silent (altough the S is also significantly silent) and the original does have a kinect port.

They are also discontinueing the Kinect at this point in time and in all honesty if people wanted to use the Kinect the original model is the one to get for its native support because the USB-converters are quite expensive.

Gotcha.

It was my impression that everything basically gets discontinued once a superior/newer model is out. Think X360 slim to the old one, GBA SP to the original...

"Grabbed defeat from the jaws of victory"? Even without the mess ups, the PS4 would still have dominated the sales.

I think more options isn't always beneficial. A 40gb ps3 will probably collect dust as the versions with more storage sell.

The One S has the 4k drive and is much smaller. No need for the bulky device when you have a better alternative.

Did the original have any unique features other than being able to use the kinect? I'm just asking to clarify.

Nope. Only difference is that its gigantic and had an external power brick which was a pain to deal with.

The One S is 40% smaller, has a 4k drive, and no power brick

Don't forget the Xbox One S also has a slightly higher eSRAM/GPU clock rate which can make games perform better.
Plus it also offers HDR, can also be placed vertically and consume less power.

Personally, I don't care if the PSU is external or Internal, there are advantages/disadvantages to both.

I guess it makes sense why it's being discontinued. It should have been a while ago.
