Forums - Movies & TV - Wonder Woman Is "A Step Backwards..."

I really don't understand what he's trying to say. Did he say more and got misquoted later? Reads like gibberish to me.

Not a fan of the WW movie but still, I can't take his words seriously anymore since pretty much praised Terminator Genisys.

That scared me too.

However, he acknowledged later that he said that to support Arnold, who is a dear friend. I imagine he really thinks Genisys is garbage.

@OT: I don't know if Wonder Woman is a step backward. Maybe a step sideways? The bigger issue is that the movie just isn't very good. So no one involved with the movie should be doing any back-patting whatsoever. Maybe Pine and Gadot, who had genuine chemistry and charisma. But that's it.

The issue is that [for you] the movie just isn't very good?

That's an issue? I mean, you don't think it's very good. But that doesn't seem to be the general concensus... So I don't see how that's an actual issue.

This endorses my opinion that actors, movie writers, directors and producers should all SHUT THE HELL UP, make their mickey mouse movies and stay very very quiet about everything else.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

I love Alien, Terminator, and Wonder Woman. I think heroes in roles can take on many forms and women shouldn't be held back to ensure we fit the "correct" interpretation of female empowerment. Part of freedom and equality is women have agency to dictate their own paths.

Why is that? because they get a big audience?

well the guy makes sense. no wonder glamour attracts women, they will put such characters on a pedestal and demand more female oriented film based on that image, but completely ignore the hard hitting flawed characters which males tend to dabble into. I want a strong female villain character.

A step backward? What? A beautiful woman in a leading heroic role is not objectifying women.

I agree with that. Alot of them live in these walled gardens surrounded by "yes" people and other celebrities who think the same. They're very out of touch with everyday people.

I understand his logic, that hollywood only allows women to be strong when they are also gorgeous and nurturing, rather than grizzled and tough, but I do not think it applies to Wonder Woman. She is very beautiful in the movie, yes, but I do not see her as objectified. She is, like the male superheroes, attractive and still strong, and there is nothing wrong with that. It is true that we need more women like Sarah Connor in our action movies (God I loved Linda Hamilton in T2), but that does not mean that we should negate the other positive representations of strong female characters. After all, men get to have representations such as Henry Cavill as Superman (a very handsome man) and tough, grizzled characters such as Clint Eastwood in the spaghetti westerns. Women are allowed to have a wide range of representation in their heroes, as well.

What the heck are you talking about?

Aren't beautiful women supposed to be objects? :-O
