Forums - Sony Discussion - I bought Doom and Horizon yesterday and did not enjoy either

Doom is gun porn. If you like running around with the most bad ass arsenal, and feeling invinsible, then it is the game for you. For me, I like this about once a year. So Doom was enjoyable to me, but not something I would say everyone has to expereince.

Horizon on the other hand is a masterpiece. For me it is a toss up between Horizon and The Last of Us for greatest traditional display 3D game of all time. It holds my personal records for the both the longest play session, and most time played in a single week. I highly recommend Horizon to anyone capable of operating a game controller.

Wrap up. Give Hozion a a couple more hours, if it ain't your thing after growing up, getting out of the village, and exploring the world a bit, then go ahead and call it. (You will probably want to unplug your consoles, box up your games, accessories, ect. and put everything up on ebay, because gaming just ain't your thing). As for Doom, if mindless killing isn't your thing, a couple more hours and better guns most likely won't change that.

To be fair, I couldn't get into Horizon either and gaming is still my thing.  To also be fair, I tried playing Horizon after finishing Zelda, so I may have had fatigue from that type of game.

But really, Horizon frustrated me at times.  I also didn't feel for the characters.  I ended up watching the balance of the story on Youtube and sold it on Ebay.  I was at the point where I was trecking across the land, maybe a 3rd through.

I was simultaneously playing Hitman complete season too... and sinking a lot of time into Titanfall 2...  might need to pick up Doom and the last guardian from what I ready here...

So in summary, go buy TitanFall 2.

Around the Network

I quite liked how Doom is a good ol' shooting game with big guns and relentless action. Also, loved that the levels were packed with hidden content. Much more interesting than corridor shooters.

Horizon, the few hours I played, I loved but then Breath of the Wild came along and I got sucked into that experience. When I come back to Horizon, I'll start anew because it's been too long since I stopped my playthrough.

Signature goes here!

I have both and agree on Doom, but what did we expect?  It's supposed to be a mindless, gory shooter; and it is.

Horizon however.....  Comparing it to Uncharted 4?  I loved Uncharted 4 but its not in thw same league as Horizon IMO.  Keep going and give it a chance.

Learn, is what i can tell you. Just cause the big outlet reviews or the fans get crazy over every release, it doesn't mean you will enjoy it.

While that may be true (People are so different, there is no game that is for everyone. I mean there are people who really didn't like TLOU!!!) it's even more important to learn that no one should judge a game after one hour of play.

Play the game for some more...one hour, in most games at least, isn't even enough to get a feeling for the controls imho.

I've just started playing Prey. (The last patch has solved all issues with the PS4 versions btw) Many people were turned off by that one hour demo but the game is fantastic imho if one gives it a chance. It has great, varied gameplay and art style and the atmosphere is amazing if one is into sci-fi with a little bit of horror. I literally woke up my dog and nephew twice last night, because I screamed when another mimic had tricked me...f'in bastards lol.

I loved Doom right from the beginning. So frantic and fast paced. Horizon appeals to a personal taste since the fun of the game comes from exploring the world as some of the gameplay mechanics such as melee combat aren't that fleshed out.
