Forums - Sony Discussion - Do you think PSVR may get the Virtual Boy or Vita treatment?

It's an accessory lol, why would you expect it to get the full support of a normal console?

Possibly because it's far and away the most expensive accessory ever in gaming, costing more than the console itself. People may want a few games with that.

It's gonna get better and better.
This is the first generation of VR (discounting the virtual boy) though. With further integration and lower price points it will be more appealing and competitve with the traditional media.
Nintendo will really get into it at the end of the Switch's life cycle with an up-rezzed portable and affordable VR with awesome nintendo licences. That's when it will really take off. Metroid Prime 5 anybody?:)

honestly do not want virtual reality at all even with the possible advanced i just cant see VR as something that would ever appeal to me

Well... i'm told by fans that it's a big sucess...

Cause obviously a 1m userbase is what Sony was aiming at.

Like... i have the same opinion i had before all this VR stuff launched. It's a fad. Just like motion controls and 3D, it's a recurring fad.

A huge monstrosity you put in your head will never be a big sucess.

Hats, Sunglasses, Eyeglasses, and Headphones, seem to tell a different story.

If something delivers an incredible experience, ehances social experiences, or greatly changes things for the better, people are more than willing to wear stuff on their head.

Cutrent VR is not quite there as far as social experience goes, and resolution needs to improve to deliver an experience that everyone feels comfortable in. That will change very quickly though. PSVR2, Vive 2, Rift 2, and ehatever Microsoft delivers will all be much better than current VR, at better prices, and while being much sleeker. The experience will be so good that people will have no problem wearing whatever is required.

Of course... those are monstrosities. /rolleyes

Get it working in a pair of glasses and you might have a sucessful product.

This talk about shortages of PSVR has not been true since January, at least in the USA. It has been available 100% of the time at my local Target. In fact, they still have launch bundles.

At this point, I think the worst case scenario for PSVR is along the lines of what happened with Kinect. MS gave it a couple of honest tries, it was cool for a while, and then it got old. It still gets a bit of third party support, but MS has given up on it. The same kind of thing could happen with PSVR.

I think the best (realistic) sceanario is that a couple of big games hit, and it ends up with an install base of 5mm units by the end of 2018. That's probably enough to ensure that it continues to get at least a bit of support.

I don't think there is any scenario where we're all gaming on PSVR in 5 years.

VR is all but dead.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

There was this last October

It wasn't succesful, nowhere to be found now.

With light leakage I doubt you can ever make them that small and work well. Perhaps ski goggles size would work. I can see beyond the edges of my glasses, too small for VR experience. The picture or fov in the headset extends beyond the frame of my glasses.

I don't think anyone suggesting we need sunglasses sized VR units has ever actually stepped into VR. Like you said the FOV and light leakage would destroy the expereince.

For me future VR units need to expand the FOV, and continue to find ways to block light leakage, all while being lighter, more comfortable, and more stable. Once they get the FOV, Resolution, Frame Rate, and Tracking to a comfortable level for the majority, VR is going to take off in whatever form it is. I see people with hats, sunglasses, headphones, ear rings, nose rings, and a necklace on all the time, sometimes they have all of them on at once. As I said, people have no problem wearing things on their head if it holds its worth.

Sony won't give the Vita treatment to PSVR, because it is ground zero of billions upon billions in profits in the next few years. They need Polyphony, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, San Diego, Gurrilla, and the rest of their in house studios to have their teeth cut on VR for the future.

If psvr would sell as much as the vita that would be a fantastic result.
