It's gonna get better and better.
This is the first generation of VR (discounting the virtual boy) though. With further integration and lower price points it will be more appealing and competitve with the traditional media.
Nintendo will really get into it at the end of the Switch's life cycle with an up-rezzed portable and affordable VR with awesome nintendo licences. That's when it will really take off. Metroid Prime 5 anybody?:)
