Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I think SNESSuper Famicom Mini is a rip off. Why I suggest not buying.

1. There may have been collections that have been priced cheaper, but what they all have in common is significantly lower game quality. Gamers are willing to pay higher prices for better games. I consider the SNES Mini too cheap, just like the NES Mini was already too cheap.

Bingo.

Four of the games (SMW, ALTTP, Super Metroid, and Final Fantasy III) are frequently mentioned in discussions of what is the best game of all time.

This is a different animal from Namco Arcade Classics or Atari Flashback.

Without doing any research, I'd say that this is probably best collection of games to ever be made commercially available as part of a bundle. The NES Classic probably being the only real competitor.

I think the price is to steep as well....however considering the responses in this thread, most dont think it is. Which is sad because i feel that this could easily be $20 cheaper. I love the SNES, but considering the price and it being Nintendo i think ill save myself the headache and stick to emulation on my PC. Also no Chrono trigger and FF2 is such a deal breaker for me!

how are you gonna legally get those 21 games for $80 let alone hardware and 2 controllers? This is the best value you can get legally by far. If you want to talk about illegal stuff, fine but it's not for most people.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

I wonder how many who buy it will add roms to it if an easy hack becomes available, so they can add their own choice of missing games. I'd certainly like to add Pilotwings, more street fighter games and quite a few others. If its got the same 512MB storage as the NES classic then there might be space to add another 100 games or something depending on rom size.

Rip off? Are you people mad? Than try to buy original SNES + those 21 games and see how much that would cost you. And don't give me that "emulators are free", because games for it aren't, unless you own all that library (which you'll never do, because of Starfox 2). In that case any console is a ripoff as torrents for PC are free, right? How dare they charge me for those games ... THIEVES!

Also there isn't much sense to comparing it with the other classic collections as we're talking about whole, physical system! Just try to build the same machine, based on raspberry pi, with custom enclosure, sd card, hdmi cord, power supplier and two controllers.

Aren't you taking the data that you haven't paid it for? What's the difference to software piracy?

No, you're copying the data. Npthing is being taken.

But in this case aren't you "taking" private data that you don't possess or have no authorization to use?

No, you're copying it. The source of the data remains unchanged. The legal rights holder of that data still have access to it. Nothing has been taken from them. The question is whether it's legal to copy the data, not whether it's stealing, because it isn't.

$80 for 20 games + a previously unreleased game in a collectable plastic shell with two controllers.

Assuming each game could go for $8 digitally, each controller is $15, $15 for the unreleased game, and $20 for the shell itself...

Yup I'll buy anything Nintendo comes out with.

OP- 21 games for $80 is a steal. Especially since all 21 games are great and high quality games.

Want to know what's a ripoff? Paying $25 for a new Blu-ray for a 80-180 minute long movie or $20 for a 60 minute CD. But a mini console for $80 with two controllers, 100's+ hours of gameplay and enjoyment is a ripoff? Gamers are getting cheap and whine too much. Video games are a luxury and not a necessity. People will vote with their wallets and others will pirate. You don't need to play video games and the Big 3 don't owe you a damn thing!

Btw I don't think Movies and Music are a ripoff inherently, but compared to video games they don't provide nearly as much bang for your dollar.

Heroic post! Thank you!
