It's so weird to see how down neogaf are on this game compared to here. People are saying it's MH for people who don't want to play MH.

I'm with the neogaffers on this one. These comments are spot on.

"lol gutted what makes Monster Hunter worth playing: the combat

y'all can keep this"

"Honestly as a Monster Hunter fan I was disappointed. This isn't really what I want out of the series"

"It looked like something I don't want to buy. The gameplay looked really bad. The visuals were great though!

But at least the visuals mean they have some good HD assets for the next mainline game. TGS should be fun."

"Yup. Spinoff . Guess we will get the mainline on switch ."

"Looks like the worst monster hunter spinoff. Cannot imagine anyone who put in time to the mainline series is excited for this."

"Doesn't look like Monster Hunter...."

"It looked...kinda generic.

and a lot like Dragon's Dogma and not Monster Hunter"

"monster hunter for people who dont want to play monster hunter"

"Man it looked really generic."

Yeah, to fans of the series this doesn't look good.

"Three platforms" Yeah... you forgot to mention how 2 of them are pracitcally irrelevant.

If the sales difference is that small, then that should be an argument for bringing mainline games to at least PS consoles, not against it. You do realize that MH5 is a mainline entry and MH World isn't, right? That seems like a much bigger factor to take into account than "availability on PC/X1" which won't constitue 10% of total sales.

MH World's sales will be compared to MHX and XX on 3DS and/or Switch. This comparison will determine where MH5 goes.

I forgot to type the "max" before 3 million. I don't see how the other two platforms are irrelevant if this is suppose to be a "westernized" monster hunter.

Eh so they get a westernized spinoff to test the waters. Water the game down and make it more approachable. Capcom is not going to make this a main title yet. They no doubt have MH5 in the works and likely for 3DS or Switch or possibly both. If this sells better than MH5 then yeah it's the way the series will go. I think a lot of true MH fans are not happy about this game TBH. To be really honest. I think this will sell like crap in the US. Most the time a really Japanese series is dumbed down for a western audience does not go well and often fail. Rarely good and often fail to sell.

Not sure if anyone posted, but they updated on how it's different from "normal" MH.

Apparently the whole world is open and seamless, and players drop in and out of multiplayer with no need to go through that stupid tavern horseshit. "It's a spin off" my ass- this is how MH should be from now on.

Exactly. This sounds so much better then the previous MH games that were held back by handhelds. This is the best outcome for MH fans in the west. Time for the series to move forward.

Sorry but if the rumor is true that Sony went to Capcom and locked-in an agreement that specifically kept the game off the Switch then it is by far not even close to being the best outcome for MH fans in the West or East (maybe a good outcome for Sony, where they will likely get a boost in Japan), particularly those of us that like to play on portables. I would say it is as close to being as bad as Nintendo locking Capcom into an exclusivity agreement to keep the series only on 3DS and off of Vita and home consoles.

It's the first trailer of a new game. Why are you expecting them to just roll out an encyclopedia of Monsters?

Also, I have to say that I'm getting frustrated with the claims that this is a "spin off". This is clearly where the series is heading, as nothing so far has indicated a massive departure from how the game plays as a whole. This is no more a spin off than X, XX, or Frontier. The only thing different from what I can see is new gameplay mechanics and a better multiplayer infrastructure.

Sorry QTEs, regenerating health, no missions and quests is a big departure from how the games play even MHX retained the core fundamentals this matches the leak only difference is that the game isn't MH5.

Yeah, this kind of deal is always a loss for gamers.  Money hatted exclusives is one thing.  One very annoying thing.  But money hatted vindictive "lul, you can't have our toys" deals are another.  Not that there's any guarantee Capcom will honor the deal.  They also promised Nintendo RE4 would be GameCube only and...well we know how that ended.

MH entering the modern era and being on 3 platforms instead of 1 is a much better outcome for western gamers then it being Nintendo only.

Plus the switch gets a port of the 3DS game so it's a win all round.

Final Fantasy XV was supposed to be a westernized Final Fantasy, and we saw how lopsided that was.... I mean, it probably sold enough to justify the XBO port, but not much more. If this game sells 3 million, I bet over 2 million of it will be on the PS4.

However the game itself (as a non-MH fan) looks weak as fuck. I'll be honest and say that MH on consoles (and particularly PS4) only had my interest for it's potential sales effect in Japan, and this won't even deliver there

Two million on PS4 sounds about right. I expect this game to be more successful than MHTri was for the Wii, mostly because it has been casualized for the lowest common denominator gamer. The game will probably sell about 1.25 Million in Japan, and .75 million elsewhere on PS4.

I can see it being moderately successful on PC though, to be honest. Modding might make it something fun and unique (albeit not a Monster Hunter game.) 400k on PC/XBO each (probably less) doesn't sound too off.
