Forums - Sony Discussion - If Sony drops the price of the PS4 and PS4 Pro....

The ps4 pro is a costed design, they didn't spend too much money on the overhaul to get 4k. The xbox one X is basically not a costed design and will cost a lot more to make so while the xbox one x is a more powerful console it will really struggle to get close to the ps4 pro pricing. So I wouldn't be surprised to see a ratio of 10:1 of ps4 pros for every single xbox one x sold.

But really its down to marketing Sony hasn't really pushed the pro its been more ps4 marketing in general where as the xbox one X marketing I reckon will be better but if you do that then the standard xbox one will suffer and fallback even faster compared to the standard ps4.

I'm more than happy with my xbox one for now though and I won't be tempted to go for the X model I think for a long time even though I have a 4k tv. I use my xbox one a lot but it plays second fiddle to the ps4.

Was that the mic drop he did when he said somethign along the lines of "At least I'll go down as President" toward trump.

Be careful of mic drops.

That's from his last White House correspondents's Dinner, where he just used as a closer after thanking the people present for their commitment to truth and the work they do. Here it is in full:

What you are referring to is a bit he did responding to Trump's tweet on Jimmy Kimmel's show.

See, I think the X1X will outsell the PS4 Pro when it releases. But to be honest I don't think the difference will be so uncanny that you'll see the benefit of having the more powerful console. I can see the difference between my old PS4 and my PS4 Pro. But I anxious to see the difference between the PS4 Pro and the X1X.

PC GAMING: BEST GAMES. WORST CONTROLS

This generation is over. A $150 price differential on the premium consoles and a solid $200 price tag on the PS4 would be the final nail in the coffin. It would be the ultimate price assault.

I don't think Sony will price drop until September or so. An announcement at Paris Game Show or Leipzig Game Show makes more sense to me.

I think Pro will stay at $399 but we will get Pro Bundles with Batlefront 2, Destiny 2, COD WW II, Gran Turismo Sport and such.

So you will get $60 game with your purchase.

Xbox One X will be $499 with no game, so $560 with a game of your choice.

So Xbox One X with Battlefront 2 will cost you $558, while Playstation 4 Pro with Battlefront 2 will cost you $399.

I agree. Brand new game bundles make sense for Pro now. PS4 absolutely dominated XB1 with a $100 price gap, and now that price gap applies only to the premium consoles. If you don't have $400, PS has another console for you, the PS4. Same as XB. Don't have $500 for XB1X, we also have XB1S. There is also the fact that PS held the PS4 price of $399 for a long time. No reason to assume they are going to change that same mindset now.

PS has all the momentum in the world at the moment. If the PS4 can outsell the XB1S for the same price without a 4k BD drive, then Pro can outsell XB1X without a 4k BD drive and 2 less Tflops for $100 less. If those 2 extra Tflops were focused more on 1080P and not 4k, then maybe it would be more of a problem, but 4k is still so niche in comparision to 1080p that it isn't going to matter much by the time PS5 shows up.

There is also the fact that these are supposed to be premium consoles, and by PS dropping the price of Pro, it makes it feel less premium, and also makes it look less worthy in comparison to XB1X. The closer they keep the price, the less people will wonder about the price gap. $100 is borderline, but at $150 less, people will pay more attention to what XB1X has that Pro doesn't.

I can see a new relese console selling more for the month it launches, but after that initial hike, it will be well below the pro on a regular basis. And Im having seconds thoughts on even launch month since by then sony will at least bundle some free games with it. I dont know when call of duty, battlefront and destiny come out, but you can garanty a bundle for the pro with thouse 3 at $400. $350 for the hollidays.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

If Sony cuts PS Pro price, it will take the Holidays by a landslide. Launching a product one year later and only about ~40% more powerful and 40% more expensive is just asking for trouble. Especially when you're not the market leader.

Yep and Sony would lose tons of money for nothing.  The console sells itself.  Sony and MS knows this gen is over so why even bother.  I doubt the PS4 will sell any better and MS console probably will not sell any worst.  If anything Sony would be leaving money on the table.  Why break even on your console sells when you can continue to make a profit.  Just believe this is the pipe dream of fanboys nothing looking at the business as a whole.

Sony probably planning on giveing the XOX a warm welcome, by temp. lowering price of the PS4pro (by 50$).

The hardcore xbox fans will still be buying it though.

1) I think PS4 goes to like 120m, and Xbox One around 50m by end of gen.

2) MS cant price adjust early next year for XOX. At 499$ MS is probably selling at break even prices, any lower and its sold at a loss.

3) "I expect Xbox One X to outsell PS4 in the states weekly"  Why?

4)  You can write MS off, its not magically going to overtake the PS4 this gen. It ll do well enough, but its not really competitive.

2) they can price adjust, they did the same thing at the start of the gen, they basically adjusted the XB1 price within months of launch.

3) it's very close right now in NA, not hard to imagine that with better graphics and all around better system the 1X can't come up with an extra 10k a week if they price adjust to match Pro?

4) Globally sure, but not in NA.

Where are you getting your NA numbers?  VGC?  Yea, I wouldn't use them right now.  They're trying tell us that the PS4, that outsold the XBO by ~100K units in April, only outsold the XBO by a few thousand each week of that month.  The gap rose by ~500K in just the first 4 months.  The Scorpio is going to have to sell a lot more than 10K a week to make up for that.

Except it's going to happen.  And Sony could probably cut the price of the Pro to $299 in Sept and break even.  Or sell for a small loss.  There's a reason they stuck with the same GPU, only doubled up and overclocked.  $349 this holiday season will still give them around $35-$50 profit, while making the price gap between it and the Scorpio seem even larger than it already is when compared to the graphical benefits you get from the Scorpio.
