Well, most of those monitors with high refresh rates are either FreeSync or G-Sync. With a G-Sync one you could still take advantage of the high refresh rate while not having to lower your settings.

I typed out a reply a moment ago, but it seems VGC loves dying here and there and it deleted my reponse.

As much as I'd love to lean more towards 1440p 144hz, I don't really want to dial down settings as often. I had to do this with my 2012 build a lot more despite mates "promising" me that things would be fine, I'd rather not experience that with a 1440p G-sync monitor. I have the money, I just don't want to blow it on something that would end up being rendered useless.

That happens with this site.

You do know that having a 144Hz screen doesn't mean having to run the games at 144fps, right? The extra refresh can help with ghosting even if you don't run the game at the monitor's refresh rate.

Anyway, do you know at least what size do you want? Or panel type (TN, IPS, VA, etc.)?

Really? I only check prices every now and then, and they seem to either remain stable or raise, but not drop.

It might not have carried over as much to the retailer side of things (so yeah, tough luck for us consumers), but it was definitely the case. The market was oversupplied which caused prices to plunge. Remember, demand is only one part of the equation. The other is supply.

That's interesting. Looks like either the stores, the RAM makers or both got some extra money last year without us knowing.

Please excuse my bad English.

Well like I said, it wasn't the RAM makers because the one I was invested in at least was bleeding money. None of the RAM makers wanted to scale back production because they would lose marketshare.

Oh I'm aware. I just don't want any drops below 60 and I've seen then with 1440p benches with the 1080ti before.

I'm thinking of an IPS 27 Gsync model.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

Personally I am waiting until OLED comes to the desktop 'till I get a new monitor.

Ok, then.

I don't know how many 27" monitors you'll find that are 1080p, high refresh and G-Sync. I'd guess that not as many as before.

Unless you go for the Dell one that's already on the market, I'm affraid you'll have to wait a lot. Even years.

Have you considered the upcoming Asus and Acer ones with 4K, 144Hz, HDR10 and FALD (full-array local diming) with 384 zones?

I have a 4k TN monitor and a 1440p IPS monitor, I want my next screen to be a huge leap over what I have now.
Though I must admit, it is kind of tempting to get a really, really nice current gen monitor.

Then look at Dell's OLED one. 30", 4K and OLED, all for a measly fee of $3,499!

Even better, it's almost 200 less from Dell themselves! http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/accessories/apd/210-aiei

Oh, I have seen it, and I want it.
Bad.

I'm  also looking to build my first PC. My budget is $600-800, but a little wiggle room is available. I've done some research and this is my tentative build. I think everything I've picked is compatible but I wanted to get some feedback anyway in case there were any issues I wasn't aware of.

AMD Ryzen 5 1600

MSI Ryzen B350 ATX Motherboard (CPU + MB bundle = $275 after $30 bundle promo)

EVGA GXT 1060 Single Fan $250

Ballistix DDR4 1 x 8GB DDR4 $60 - I plan on adding another later.

WD 1TB 7200 HDD  $50

Corsair Carbide Spec Case $60

EVGA 430W Power Supply $32

Total before tax: $727

I also have a 500GB SSD from my laptop that I was planning on moving to the desktop, so I would only need an adapter instead of buying a new SSD. Also, I'm pretty much just going for a 1080p build, maybe 2K if i feel like getting such a monitor. But I'm not really interested in 4K so I don't need that.

Let me know what you all think and if you have any suggestions. I've never built a computer so this is new territory for me, and any feedback is welcome.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

^Why the SSD adapter? The case has mounting points for 2.5" drives. Also, as I've said before, I'd get all the RAM at te same time.

Besides that, nothing to say, it's a very good PC to play at 1080p.
