Forums - Movies & TV - Wonder Woman Reviews - 79 Meta - 97% RottenTomatoes

Do you know how Rotten Tomatoes work? 97% isn't a score but the amunt of critics that think the movie is worth to watch, the real score they give is a 7.7 which doesn't seem crazy compared to other superhero movies without a woman on the lead.

I believe that the Rotten Tomatoes metric works best for films. This isn't videogame review, where a lot of games get scores higher than 90 all the time.

Also notice that Meta has way less reviews than Rotten Tomatoes, so it isn't really the best place for movie reviews.

I have no doubts that i will like this movie. But I agree that there is likely a "Ghostbusters" effect going on here, where people are reviewing it better because the lead is a woman. "But what about Ghost in the Shell, or some other recent female action movie?" you might say. Well, heres the thing, Wonder Woman is THE female superhero, it has a pedigree. Ghostbusters also had a pedigree, it isnt a property that is new or has no prexisting pop culture standing (western).

That being said, this is perfectly ok in the realm of rotten tomatoes. The whole point is if the movie is fresh, not its overall critical rank in comparison to other movies. And guess what? A major superhero movie with a female lead is pretty damn fresh.

After watching Baywatch and finding the scathing critics gave it unjustified I, will see anything.

Baywatch wasnt very good. It just wasnt that funny. But I dont think any of the actors were bad, and it wasnt boring. Its kinda like recent adam sandler movies, u just kinda sit there and sometimes go "heh".

ABOUT TIME! Maybe the DCEU is salvageable after all!

So you are suggesting it has a good score because the charcter is a woman right? That's the kind of level I would expect from you.

absolutely, I don't know how anyone can look at the constant shilling from feminist sites or even left wing sites in general that big these movies up just because a woman is the lead. Ghostbusters from last year was one of the biggest turds I've ever seen, yet it got a 73% on RT after months and months of incessant articles about how amazing it was just for having an all woman team and how sexist anyone who didn't look forward to it was.

identity politics is huge with these people

What is wrong with you? You can't enjoy a movie because it has Wonder Woman in it? How's it going over there on Sausagefest Island? I don't even remember WW being hyped up to be the next great feminist event. Outside of the DC haters having daggers in their eyes, the reception for the trailers had been relatively positive.... unlike Ghostbusters.

I haven't seen it yet, but I would based on my expectations and the reception more compare it to like Dane Cook. Feels like it would be that crude of a college humor. Your gonna have your frat boys and teenagers loving it, but the rest of us sick and tires of dick jokes.

maybe you misread my comments or didn't read them all. i don't dislike Wonder Woman, although i've never seen the TV show, and I will watch it when it comes to TV or Netflix. I just don't trust reviewers opinions any more

I'm nervous about this movie for a few reasons.

1. Going full on girl power/feminism (ala Supergirl TV Show) Luckily the reviews I've read/seen this appears not be the case.
2. Many of the reviewers I watch/read loved Suicide Squad, so then is this WW as bad as suicide squad then? Sure they later seem to hate on SS now, which they should, but having fallen for the novelty of suicide squad, is this initial praise also for the novelty of a WW movie/female superhero solo?
3. I love MoS and Ultimate BvS, yet critics hate them.
4. The want a DC movie to be good. Are reviews skewed due to them wanting to praise a DC movie?
5. The Snyder hate. Are they praising it due to it not being Snyder?
6. Feminism. Pure flat out raising score for reasons unconscious or not. Proving women are better.
7. Novelty or excitement of a first female led raising score.
8. Giving the middle finger to the industry by saying female movies can work.
9. 97% That's too high. Never trust ratings that high. They tend to be one hit wonders. What I mean by that is, one watch wonders. No re-watchability at all.

If critics are inflating scores for female led films how does that explain Amy Schumer's most recent film? It has a 36% rating.
