Probably because there's more money in UEFA than AFC. And Israel are in UEFA too... despite not being even partially in Europe |
Armenia and Azerbaijan aren't really in Europe, either, but they are considered to be really close and tied to Europe, which is why they play there. As for Israel, it should be fairly obvious: a lot of states in Asia would refuse to play against them.

sounds like an easy path to the championship

Armenia and Azerbaijan are at least like literally on the border though. As for israel, IIRC they did move for political reasons yes, but they were part of AFC for awhile though, apparently just before they left North Korea were one of the teams that refused to play them. Wouldn't have thought they'd be one to do that, guess they were just pissed about them getting sanctioned for their human rights violations while israel keep getting away with them or something. |
Shit, I actually meant to say Cyprus, not Azerbaijan. I think a lot of the Muslim countries wouldn't want to play against them, either.

A total of 3,974 civil servants were fired on Saturday from several ministries and judicial bodies, and 45 civil society groups and health clinics were shut down, according to a decree published in Turkey’s official gazette. Turkish internet users also woke up on Saturday to find that they no longer had access to Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia written by volunteers. Waiting for John Oliver to explain to me in 20 minutes why Putin Erdogan sucks. Bias and propaganda free. |
Technically, he would be explaining it with propaganda against Erdogan.
Not necessarily a bad thing, but just because you agree with it doesn't mean it isn't propaganda.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's retired early. I'm against authoritarian measures and censorship.

My bad, sarcasm isn't my strongest suit.
I actually believe John Oliver's episode about Putin is disgusting, especially that it was written and published at a time in which Erdogan is disgustingly and proudly guilty of what he's accussing Putin of, and so much worse.
They can just use a VPN right...if they wanted? I mean, not that it's that important or anything.

Putin has been ahead of Erdogan quite some time, Erdogan is still playing catch up in becoming totalitarian leader

It doesn't matter if he catches up, John Oliver won't hunt him down.
... unless Erdogan's ambitions get in the way of course.
