MS and Sony both took a stab at mid gen upgrades and MS is simply doing better at it.

How so? MS went for the more expensive and powerful option, but it's probably going to sell less than the Pro. Is MS going to consider that as doing better?

I mean, its the only way Microsoft can handily beat Sony. If they aren't beating them with exclusives, they might as well have the best multiplats. The problem is they are pandering to a much smaller crowd than Xbox fans think they are. Spencer knows it, so they are going to try to be as cost effective as they can while pushing the limits of the gen closely into next gen. This is about getting a one up on power to Microsoft. its obvious at this juncture. It might work with our crowd, but it wont work with the rationale of the mass audience who just want to pick up and play.

Oh boy, don't you get tired of making these arguments? You've said this same stuff many times before.
I know this because you seem to be in most Scropio related threads.

MS like Sony is doing a mid gen upgrade, MS just happens to be making the superior machine.

Why are you lumping the power of Scorpio and 1st party games into the same argument? Its not like Scorpio's power means less new IPs.

Lastly, I see Scropio as a long term plan. It may phase out the X1 S when it hits $299.

How is MS doing the better mid gen machine?

Well they do have the better mid gen machine. The problem is that its more exemplary of a next gen consoles, rather than a mid gen one. 4k gaming wont be streamline until next gen when enough units have been purchased. The goal for this generation should've been to nail 1080 60 fps for all games accounted for before the end of the gen. Microsoft swung for the fences, just to say they beat Sony at something. Instead, Microsoft is going to make next gen a much smaller gap in capabilties. This means they are really going to have to show off some great games that cannot be found anywhere else. Sony is going to drop an avalanche of exclusives on them at E3 for sure.

Everyone seems to underestimate MS when it comes to E3. Since launch Xbox has had really good E3s. The only time i remember Sony out doing MS on games at E3 was when they announced Shemue 3, FF7 and TLG which were games that are 2+ years away.

If gamers think Xbox is just going to show case Hardware only and very little software to go with it at this years E3 than they clearly havnt watched history. Only bad E3 Xbox had was in 2013 when gamers complained that thet couldnt play there games in a Nuclear Submarine.

Scorpio is the perfect console to showcase lots of new software for it. Expect them to hit hard with a bunch of games and them claiming it *Runs better on Scorpio* modo. Who knows, maybe showcase FF7 on Scorpio bombshell. Spencer is a gamer. He knows what gamers want.

You say that as if MS doesn't do the exact same thing.

Crackdown 3, Sea of Thieves, Scalebound, Fable Legends, Phantom Dust Reboot.

They have had good e3's, but equally they've shown games that are years out or worse never even release at all.

My point wasnt about if there better than Sony at E3. My point is they always show games and lot of them. This years E3 i cant see being any different.

One thing that I don't get is why people keep asking for 1080p/60fps or 4k/60 fps? FPS is not a standard and that's that. I would much rather have a gorgeous adventure title at 1080p/30fps than a mediocre looking one at 4k/1080p.

Not every game has to be rock solid 60fps. The time when photo-realism at 60fps is a standard is still a couple of generations away. Hell, maybe at that point generations wont even be relevant anymore. While I love a solid 60fps in a side-scrolling Mario title, I don't mind that Horizon is locked at 30. It doesn't hurt the gameplay in any way, shape or form.

The viewpoint of consoles gamers and PC gamers is different. We play mostly the same games, but PC gamers enjoy customization, all available choice and knowledge on parts and building, modding rather than console gamers who generally plug and play. (essentially the complexity is a non factor with consoles)In the console realm our dependence is based on the endeavors of the first party and the wealth of third party that is brought in. On PC there is more self reliance and a broader viewing of third party. Console gaming will always trail PC gaming and thus all the trappings of discussion that comes with it.

I think that you are making a mostly wrong generalization.  Based on the Steam stats, a VERY high percentage of PC users have low to mid range PCs (not even as powerful as the Scorpio).

So, the group that mods and changes their PCs is much smaller than you suggest.

So, to the OP that you made.

I think the difference between the PS4pro and the Scorpio is what M$ is trying to achieve.  The PS4pro is basically a small upgrade from the PS4 as the original PS4 was already "powerful enough" to make the VR work better.  The Scorpio will be a substantial upgrade from the underpowered and poorly designed XB1.  So, M$ is basically about changing the mindshare of the general public about the XBOX brand for their whole future.  The XB1 basicaly broke the brand.  The Scorpio is meant to show where the best multiplat versions of every game is played(PS4's territiory fo the last 4 years) until the next gen.  Will the Scorpio blow away the sales of the PS4 or the PS4pro? Probably not, but there will be no question that if you want the best looking and best gaming experience for COD/Assasins/whatever multi-plat for the rest of the generation, it will be on an XBox come this fall.  That is worth every dollar spent for the last 15 years building the XBOX brand if your M$.

The best looking and best gaming experience for multi-plats will be on PC.

Sales prediction, PS4: 122 Million, Xbox one: 50 million, Switch: 105 million.

Eh?

Its a great bonus to have ( a good framerate) but its not that important in many genres... allas, I guess its down to particular taste as everything else, but there are plenty of poorly optimized games that performed formidably.
