It's Digitimes, they've got numerous things about the NX/Switch wrong, like they said last year the NX was launching last summer.

Personally I think the Switch will sell a healthy amount, but I'm not sure if it'll ever hit 20+ million in a year. The 3DS never even topped 14 million and basically 3DS has all the same franchise games the Switch is going to have minus Splatoon. Maybe they could inflate totals by having varying models, but after a while I think that card runs out of mileage too. 

Nintendo would need a new break out franchise that's huge, like a *new* Mario or Pokemon or Wii Sports or Brain Training to get to 20+ million, you don't get those types of shipment numbers just from the same ol' franchise catalog + Monster Hunter + Dragon Quest + indie downloads that are available on every other system. You would need something new to drive hardware sales to another level. 

Nintendo is crazy. There is no way that they can achieve this, the hype is already gone now just after 2 weeks of release. If this report is true then Nintendo will be very disappointed in one year imo.

lol the hype is gone??? there are people camping every week outside stores just to get one of 10 or 20 switch's available every week you're so predictible!!

The console keeps on selling out every time it is in stock, so i dont know where you took that "the Switch has no more hype" from....

20 million on the first year would mean they'd most likely get higher sales for the years to come, and then decline around year 5-7. That would give them PS2 level sales.

I just don't think the PS2 or DS can be topped. Switch can obviously succeed, but doing that well will take a lot.

It makes sense, since there was a source saying that Nintendo will be making a cheaper Switch model that can make toast so that is definitely going to sell well over 18M, at the very least

That's 5m more than 3DS! 3DS was being sold at 249$ for its first five month and it wasn't selling very well, Nintendo had to slash its price ( 249$-169$ ) for the sales to skyrocket,
Well, some wii lapsed gamers should return, both casual and hardcore but not that many to reach such an overly high number for a non sony console.
Casuals are on the free to play mobile gaming, ... For the lapsed hardcore wii gamers which are multiplatform owners, switch price is prohibitive for the moment.
I think it's hard for that number even with a Pokémon game!
And for the first year switch will be selling as a wii u successor and by extend wii, gc, n64, snes, nes, to say that this number is feasible since it's a hybrid!

Handheld consoles gamers will be waiting for the handheld ips, a price drop, or a switch more portable ( cheaper/durable ) revision that will properly replace 3DS, that can't happen in the first year because 3DS isn't dead, both software support and hardware sales-wise.

Hell no. They probably even think that they can reach that without more killer games.
