Forums - General Discussion - Star at the Bar #5: Pet Horror Stories

Bar is boring, nothing new happenin' at the moment. So let's get dark!

Aight, so my story will be about my first ever pet. An iguana named Lizzy. I was around 6 when I got Lizzy and she endured a lot with me (losing her tail at one point). But nothing that happened before came close to what happened to her when I was 8. When I was 8 I lived in Texas, out in the country in a place called Joshua near Burleson (my Texan friends here may have lived near me idk). Anyway, my family had lived in the country a few months by this point and Summer was coming, my fellow Texans know how fucking hot that can get.

So, as an iguana Lizzy required to be taken outside twice a day. She had a heat rock but nothing beat the sun for her. Anyway, when I was at school my mom took her outside for me. Well on this particular day my mom took Lizzy outside as per usual and then... forgot she did and went to Walmart, for 3 hours... 2 hours and 30 minutes longer than she was supposed to be outside in her cage.

I get a call from the principals office that day, my mom is picking me up early. I'm a kid, I'm THRILLED I get to go home early but my mom seemed off. She was eager to get on my good side. I felt anxious, something happened. But I couldn't figure out what it was. She said we could go to my favorite restaurant today and asked if I liked animals that were easy to maintain like a dog or cat. I decided that I needed to know what was wrong, "Mom, tell me what's wrong! You're freaking me out. Am I dying? Why are you acting so weird?" we pulled up as I said what I did. I saw Lizzy's cage outside but didn't think much of it. She told me she was sorry and to go to the cage. The peices of the puzzle started to click as I approached the cage.

As I got closer I saw a trail of ants and a long slender black object. It looked like a banana that had been out too long, but I realized immediately that it was Lizzy. The Texas sun didn't just burn Lizzy, it charred her. Her skin was black and peeling, Only a few green patched remained. Ants were already eating her eyes and going into her mouth. Being a kid I grabbed her despite her being burnt and the cage giving me a burn due to its metal frame. I try reviving her anyway I can, to no avail. After a couple hours of unsuccessful revival I gave up. She was dead. She was my best friend and now she was gone. Forever.

I was mad and immediately cussed my mom out and told her things I won't repeat here, but they were bad. However, the story doesn't end here.

Lizzy was later buried. But I couldn't accept she was gone so after a mock funeral for her, after my parents went back into the house... I dug her up with the shovel next to her grave. My parents noticed, were disturbed by seeing her in my room and then buried her again (they hid the grave so I couldn't dig her back up).

I dug her up again. I found the spot after digging for a few hours at night a few nights later. After digging her up, I think I'll keep her safe by putting her body in that old metal cage and hide it in the wheat field that my neighbors owned. It was the perfect spot, or so I thought.

A month goes by and I get back from school one day. There are firetrucks on my property and my neighbors. Apparently the wheat field caught fire due to my neighbor being careless with a cigarette. The fire-fighters were just leaving when I got home so I ran to her secret spot. She was there, at least -sorta. Her cage had melted from the heat and Lizzy's charred body was now, worse. Her mid-section as well as face got burnt bad, only exposed bone were in those places now. I freak out and put her remains in an aquarium in my parents garage. I thought, there, she'd be safe. Right?

A month or so pass without issue. But one Saturday morning I go see her but she's gone. Her aquarium isn't there either. I panic until I notice the house is void of people... I go outside and see that my parents decided to have a garage sale. I look frantically for the aquarium but to no results. I ask my parents if they knew where it was to which my mom tells me, "Yeah, some old lady just bought it. She's driving off now." I look at the driveway and she's already gone. I had no chance of getting her. I tell my parents Lizzy was in there. I explained what I had done and they were shocked and horrified. They wondered if the old lady would come back and complain. She didn't. But I'm sure she was in for a surprise when she got home XD that is the tale of Lizzy.

TL;DR version: I had an iguana, she burned to death. Dug up twice. Burned again to where there was exposed bone. And then sold to an unsuspecting old woman.

At first I was like "there's no way I'm reading this". But then I did, and I'm glad I did.

When I get real, even my longest stories are worth the read

I had a pet Salamander aptly named Sally. Her food was hard to come by, especially in my area. Sally was cool though, and we tried for a very long time to keep her. We had to travel 40 minutes to get food for her for a month, and we continued to do this for a year or two. However I was only a child and we stopped getting food for her and I didn't know what to do. She slowly died of starvation. My salamander could have lived for years, if we fed her or released her. I think she lived for 2 months in a filthy aquarium without eating anything. Always a big regret for me, and I now know to never take on a pet that I can't provide for.

It is odd because we also once had a pet snapping turtle, but the guy was annoying enough that my mother released him.

I always wanted a salamander! Why'd you guys stop going to get her food?

No idea, we probably lost transportation or something.

WTF? That sounds like it leads in to a horror movie or something with zombie Iguanas! :O

Poor Lizzie and poor Star though! Sounds really bad that you mum let you see that though. Probably should have just told you she died and not shown you the charred corpse being eaten by ants.

Probably right about her should have gotten rid of the body before taking me home XD there's a part 2

Oh my gosh this story. That's so horrifying. I feel bad for your poor iguana. What a horrible way to die.

Hmm...my worst story is less mine, and more the family's. I think I was in middle school. My sister had a hamster at the time, while I had a cat (well it was the family's cat, but I liked to claim he was mine). We decided that it was a smart idea to leave the hamster in the bathroom...outside of its cage, so it could roam around freely. Of course it'd be fine in there, not like hamsters can chew through doors or anything.

Well anyway, this hamster chewed through the door. As soon as we got home, my mom had us do something in the garage. Didn't think much of it at the time. We get inside, and find that the hamster is missing. Apparently ran off somewhere, maybe went through the vents and got outside. Goodbye hamster. My sister was depressed about it, but she liked to believe her pet managed to be free outside.

Well......my mom finally came clean years later. Turns out, she was the first person back in the house. When she went downstairs, she saw signs that the hamster had escaped, like she told us. What she didn't tell us though, was that she also found chunks of hamster strewn about the basement. Apparently, my cat found the hamster running around, caught it, and ripped it to shreds, not even bothering to eat the whole thing. Anybody that's seen a cat catch a mouse probably has an idea of what happened to this poor hamster...the poor thing probably suffered quite a lot while my cat played with his food.

Definitely creepy to think about now. I love cats, and will never regret owning a cat (I still do)...but god damn are they savage creatures. I'll definitely never own a rodent x.x; they just don't mix.

Awww poor hamster ;-; I love cats too. Im sorry that happened. But yeah, cats and hamsters are not a good mix at all XD

Time for what I believe is an even more brutal story.

In the Middle East, cats and dogs are (unfortunately) abused. You think women are a big problem here. but it is animal rights which are a bigger problem in my eyes. Anyways, here's a messed up story.

Dog at stake:

I was having tea with my family. Nothing too bad. It was nothing more than a typical day. As I was drinking, I heard a loud "THUMP" on the metal roof that covers the outside section of the apartment. At first, I thought it was the kids above us throwing garbage again, but it was more than that- I heard a dog's voice.

It was one of the few dogs I saw in the area, so I didn't expect it. I thought it was just a toy dog at first, until I heard a bunch of kids screaming (along with the dog). What the hell is going on?

I walk out to the perished building right next to the apartment and see something horrifying...the dog was being burned ALIVE by the demonic bastards. What I assumed was a toy dog ended up being a homeless and abused dog which was thrown 20 feet out of a window, beaten up by children, and then burned to death. It was barking and screaming, and couldn't move due to it being heavily injured. It was rather traumatizing- it felt like something you would see in war. with peeling skin, a miserable animal, and a lot of anger, I couldn't do much but go back in and do something about it.

I ended up giving the kids I saw a major beating. As harsh as this sounds, I (along with a friend) definitely were upset about this- we did what we believed was the most reasonable thing and gave the caught kids a harsh lesson.

The next day, we go back out to see the dog burned alive. It's not exactly a happy moment to see an abused dog end its life by turning into a burnt crisp. Parts of its body was still there, but you honestly couldn't tell it was a dog.

We had to leave it there until a professional came to get rid of the body. I made sure the dog wouldn't just be buried by building remains or thrown into a garbage can. Due to the lack of such services, it took one week. Waking up and seeing that dog everyday was rather terrible, and it will always remind me of why humans aren't the only creatures who deserve rights.

tl:dr- dog was thrown out a window, beaten up, and burned alive. it was a terrible experience which shows an overlooked issue in the middle east- animal abuse.

Every time i see a cat walking around in the street while wearing a doritos bag.

Sigh i took it off anyway.
