Forums - Politics Discussion - Voting age should be raised and tied to income and intelligence

This plan is

good 21 11.48%

not good 152 83.06%

maybe, at least we should... 10 5.46%

Total:183

Lol no. What if someone is poor but is very intelligent intelligent so they cant vote? Also, I don't think folks 26 and over should be the only ones that have a say on who runs the country because it will also affect the younger people 18+.

No just a required Naivety Test. Since most voters seem to be easily duped into voting for candidates that pretend to have the same values as them.

That'd fall underneath racism, sexism, classism etc.

That's so 19th century, so cute (not that I'm a big fan of democracy, but your idea is just absurd).

Fuck off. Usually bad economic situations drive voting in the first place. It's enough we already have an electoral college between our vote in the first place and you think restricting it more is the answer? It's funny how all the anti-elites that voted in this election are all for elitism now once they're on the other side. Democracy indeed.

Are you sure you will be able to vote though?

To put an IQ limit is genuinely dumb, sorry, and not democratic at all.

About the need of having a certain level of income to vote... wow, this is unbelievable, you need to check your principles because this way of thinking is toxic and deeply absurd for this day and age.

I see this idea backfiring. It just make a lot of people happy, for not voting. It's a good excuse. "I'm dumb. I don't need to vote."

I agree, but the US isn't a democracy. It's a Democratic republic, IE they get opinions of the public but that isn't the final say, they make the final say.

If voting had a few more options. Like say: I don't like any of the picked candidates. I want new people picked (please don't suggest the other 25, that never reach this point). Everything redone. Trump and Hillary could of been removed. Maybe the 50% that didn't vote. Would have. But, it doesn't work like that.

Also, more people, would be happy, to not vote. "I'm stupid, so I don't have to vote.". Would be the main excuse.

A 'do-over' option would be brilliant. I don't care how long it takes to find a candidate people like, it should take a long time to find a world leader.

That is true but people who do that probably wouldn't fit the requirement anyway.

Age limit increase is a good idea, coming from a 21 year old 18 is too young.

25 should be the limit as that is when your brain is finished developing.

Income based is a bad idea and would create bias. Intelligence is a good idea, fully developed people should make the decision. If you're going to add that age limit I also think the voting age should be cut off at 75+ also.

Many great points. However, I don't think it's right to tell an 18 years old kid that he/she can go fight and die in a war but can't vote for who will send him there. That's some crazy thinking. 18 shouldn't be old enough to enter a battlefield but too young to make a choice.

Yeah 18 really is so young, you shouldn't be able to fight for your country until your brain has developed enough.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Nope. Easier to have outright dictatorship.

It worked so well in the past when the nobility ran the world, didn't it?

The United States of America is NOT a democracy, it's a republic. Any of you misses that shouldn't be voting.
