Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Switch Hype. Is it real? or is it just hope?

Is the high attach rate of the nintendo switch:

Because NS is a magical machine 98 42.61%

Because Fans really want it to succeed 132 57.39%

Total:230

Hopefully it's real, I probably won't be buying one, but for Nintendo's sake it needs to be a success.

I get my news from VGChartz so, based on what I've seen, the Switch will outsell the PS4.

The launch hype is mostly about Zelda.

The Hype is real and fans as well as non fans want it to succeed.  My fear with the attach rate though is how much of that is scalpers?

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

If a large portion of the people buying consoles are scalpers, then that would artifically lower the attach rate, because people would be buying consoles but not any games. If there are a lot of scalpers, this makes the high attach rate even more impressive because it means that people are buying a lot more games to make up the difference.

The hype is real and wanted to buy a switch maybe by holiday 2017 or during the xenoblade 2 launch date. :)
wish it would succeed and hopefully a lot of demand would still be there but not like the Wii with scalper pricing.

It's just hype. As with any new product. The N64 had hype, Game Cube had hype, Wii U had hype too. The Wii was not even hyped until after release when the casuals saw the motion controller.

Now that ship has sailed. Anyone using google searches, YouTube views or so called preorders/attach rate are fooling themselves as they mean nothing.

The Switch conference last month had very little views on YouTube anyway. Much less than the one from last fall.

Switch will sell enough to make a profit. I predicted around 20-25 million, because the WiiU sales are too bad to repeat when a new Zelda is launching with it and a 3D Mario game coming in the first year.

The target consumer (casual and mobile gamers) are not going to find it appealing with that price and how expensive the accessories. Something Nintendo fans constantly ignore.

Even the people I know who own a WiiU are not interested in it at leat for the moment. Paid online and lack of power will also hurt it.

It does not offer big budget games on the go as not even Zelda is big budget compared to games on stronger hardware.

The same was said for the WiiU all over the net. Gamestop has to say what they did, because they want to sell it. Notice no comparison data between Switch and WiiU.

No one is hating or bashing. The product just is not very appealing to none diehard Nintendo fans. I would play the new Mario and Zelda, but hate the gimmick and not paying $299 for it. Neither is anyone else I know.

No data so the so called attach rate thing is just hearsay. People buy more games from Walmart. Especially casuals and Walmart has not even mentioned the Switch.

In reality Gamestop is not a very big videogame merchant so they don't get as many consoles or games. They make all their money off used games and always try to secure preorders to guarantee a sale.

Notice none of the Switch's games are sold out. They won't produce too many copies of games when they are launching new hardware. So what is the proof of a high attach rate wgwn only Zelda will be the must have game?

I'm not too sure myself, but I'm certainly hyped for it. Can't wait to get iiiiiiit~

I don't want Switch to fail of course as that means software support gets dropped early again, but I also don't want it to be too successful, to the point where it's hard to find even well after launch and doesn't drop in price. As for hype, launch isn't a good indicator of how the console will perform long term so it doesn't matter how much hype there is or isn't, but from what I've seen it's definitely talked about a lot. Course it's always been a hot topic since we knew it as the NX so no surprise there.
