Mario Kart 8's tie ratio is ridiculous. Even if it was halved it would still be amazing.

Is MK8 needed to hack the WiiU or something?

Its just the best game the system has, on a system where your not really spoilt for choice.

Yeah, and I have puzzled over the fact that they didn't increased the forecast again, especially given the NA situation...

Switch?

Unless they retaining it at 7.2m on purpose... To exceed it by a lot! ;)

What? They just bumped the forcast to 7.2 million, it was 6 million last quarter.

lol...

Forgive me, I  had the wrong notion that the 7.2m were from FY16Q2 but it was 6m as you menioned befored and didn't notice it, and it Nintendo rose it to 7.2m...

So 5m->6m->7.2m...

WOW 1m increasement every quarter...

Is Nintendo so incompetent to estimate the demand of their products? Wii u situation have made them so pessimistic and conservative!

So Nintendo exceeded the 6m ( which was previously 5m ) as of March 2017 forescast, in december 2016...

I think they will surpass the 750k which needed to hit the new forecast!

Switch even if perhaps is 3DS successor is expensive as a handheld console only and doesn't have bc... So 3ds sales shouldn't be affected significantly, not even fat ds which had bc didn't cut many sales from GBA...

Also, New 3DS XL is still at full price,  ergo a price drop should be on the way and it could boost the hardware sales to an important extend...

GBA and ds final revision had a lower price than their initial one in the same time frame!

7.2m...

It's at 6.45m between April-December...

Only 750k to hit it!

Easy! Nintendo had shipped 1m in last year's FYQ4...

We also have to take into account that 3DS is extremely hard to be found in NA since early December, way higher demand than the expected ( Pokemon go+Sun and Moon huge effect )... To be precise, higher demand than the number of units that Nintendo had produced as of December....

I meant the original target, from the start of the financial year. Having finally found it on Nintendo's website, the original estimation for 3DS in FY16/17 was 5 million units, which makes the Pokemon boost even more impressive. Nearly a 50% increase on their original hardware target, plus a massive increase of 'legacy' software (Pokemon X/Y, OR/AS, Mario Kart 7) in the Western market. It may indicate that if Nintendo can keep 3DS chugging alongside Switch as a budget offering, there's a little room for growth in Western markets yet.

EDIT: I see other people have pointed out the original shipment figures and the subsequent increases in this year's estimate.

Sorry, I made a mistake...

It was 5m before pokemon go, Nintendo increased it to 6m after Pokemon go and raised it to 7.2m after Pokemon sun and moon... ;)

That definitely accounts for some/most of it but even relative to 2d Mario, 3d Mario, Smash it's outperforming. It's already way over Double Dash and I'm not sure the GC was that much better for choice.

Wii U still overtracked here as well.

it will be adjusted down soon... I have notified the responsible...

All of the surplus is from the NA... That's known since july 2016, the issue is that hadn't been fixed when it had to...

Great numbers for this fiscal year. Nintendo defied the naysayers and proved that smartphones are not the death knell for dedicated gaming handhelds. For the first time in a long time, Nintendo did not only meet their original forecast for a full financial year, but also had to raise it.

With Switch being priced as high as it is, the 3DS will have no problem to pass 70m units lifetime.

NS is not high priced, and yes 3DS will get 70 -75 million lifetime.

Rol, considering that switch might be 3DS successor too, means that switch is high priced as a  handheld console only...

As a newly home console it's afforable and as a home and handheld console too,  its price  is low ( New 3ds xl and WIIU cost 500$ combined )  but for those who want only a handheld conole, it's a fairly high price..

Remember the trouble of 3DS at its initial price of 250$ and that DS costed 149$?

Any price above 199$ for a handheld console is high for the only handheld console gamers!

Very nice, should be able to hit 70M

are there any new 3Ds XL white version? where the buttons are colored like the Super Famicom one?

Not bad, maybe 70 million is possible if they keep supporting it for a year or two.
