Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should Nintendo release a handheld only pack for 199$

So 299$ seems a bit too much for some, but looking at the internal prices of the packages, the handheld alone with 2 joycons should be possible for 199$.

Of course you have to milk early adopters first, so 299$ for the well-off Nintendo fans first.

Switch starter set 199$ at Christmas 2017 instead of a price cut for the larger package?

If people want it, then sure.

Make that a smaller Switch that fits in pockets.

This is definitely going to be the next "Wii U should be sold without the gamepad."

That being said, I do think this has a higher likelihood. Nintendo is selling the Joy-Con Grip for $30 and the Dock Set for $90, so they could probably release a bundle without them for $200 if their current profit margin is less than 17%.

$169.99 and yeah, sure.

Maybe without the JoyCons...

I'm sure they will make a new portable console. Wether its totally different or a proper portable switch i don't know. But i do know the switch we know is gonna fail to capture most of the portable market.

Makes no sense, they would only save 1$ of plastic for the dock in production costs. But it would make sense to release a console only version and save a lot of money by removing the screen, buttons, speakers and sensors from the mobile unit and integrating everything else in the stand.

The dock is just a piece of plastic with HDMI output, there is no hardware in it.

They definitely will want to sell it as an hybrid for at least a year before giving up and selling a handeld version, much like the kinectless X1 did. (It may have taken longer)

They'd have to reduce the price of the main one to $250 too though, cause even with how insanely overpriced the dock is, that would still make the handheld version + dock separately $10 cheaper than the normal version
