Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I hate to say this...If the Switch isn't powerful as Xbox One, I'm not buying. Let me explain

I don't understand why people are still concerning themselves over 3rd parties. I thought the majority of us accepted the reality that those big budget 3rd party multiplats weren't coming to the Switch after it was revealed last year as a hybrid console. I know I was one of those people; I bitched about it for a day, held out hope for xbone power and then I accepted reality. When I thought about it, I realized that I'm perfectly fine with a Nintendo console that gives me the 3rd party support of their handhelds along with the combined 1st party software library of their handhelds and consoles. And if 3rd parties happen to come on board and try to find a way to put their big budget games on the Switch, I'll happily buy that version of their games over any other version for the added portability.

Well the third parties dont seem to do much with big or small games on the Switch. Most of the third parties talking in the presentation hadnt even started making their game yet. One guy even just said they are thinking about releasing games on the Switch... I mean what the hell is that about?

The rumor for a while was that Nintendo was going to basically go at it alone for the first year so the lack of 3rd party announcements outside of ports doesn't surprise me.  Also, another rumor was that 3rd parties didn't even get dev kits until 6-8 or so months ago so that's probably another believable hypothesis as to why 3rd party support is in short supply early on.

Why not just wait 4-5 years to buy one? At that point, it'll have all the content you want, and you can just sell it afterwards. That's what I'm planning on doing with the PS4.

This one made me look at your profile. Which is worth no points. This quote is though.

Nintendo has been marching to the beat of its own drum for years now. I don't think having expectations of it getting the latest version of third party games like battlefield, cod, assassin's creed, etc were realistic given the history of the Wii and Wii U. It will get plenty of first party support (once 3ds and Wii U developers move onto it). It's up to Nintendo to make it enticing enough and build an audience large enough to convince third parties to develop for it as well.

Switch is 4 to 5 times weaker than XB1/PS4, so as far as getting recent 3rd party AAA games it has the same problem Wii U had, only worse since PS4/XB1 are already going to be in their 4th year of development and PS3/360 ports of games are no longer being made.

Probably not that accurate really, if the theoretical docked power is somewhere close to 400 gflops, then the XbOne is probably closer to 2.5x as powerful as the Switch. That's accounting for newer hardware design over the older XbOne gcn architecture and efficiency. When we see the first Switch games built from the ground up running between 720p and 900p at 30fps, we will have a better idea of what games can look like.

Right now BoTW is a open world WiiU port that just happens to run better than the WiiU version in both 720p portable and 900p dock modes.

The architecture is more recent, but as a mobile chipset it's hard to compare directly; it could be more efficient, or could be less as they cut features in the mobile version to save power.

Anyway, from the look of the games, and from Zelda's resolution information, it looks around 1.5x to 2.0x of Wii U GPU performance.

Then they should really have put more effort into releasing more new games in the first year. If they really want third parties, they need to make sure it sells well in the first year after all.

Buy a PS4, lol. I was just responding to the OP implying that he's not buying the system at all due to the lack of 3rd party content.

I'll wait until the end of E3 before I pass judgement on Nintendo's software lineup for the 1st year.  And even though I'm just one person that doesn't speak for everyone, I'm fine with the current 2017 lineup since I can already think of 6-8 full priced games I want to buy for it this year.

Gaming PC?  Seriously though, now that Nintendo is probably unifying their software libraries, PC+Switch is probably the way to go from now on -- espeically with how the PS4 and Xbone are slowly turning into glorified gaming PCs and how 3rd parties are starting to become more open to porting their games to PC.

Close to the Wii U? Get real folks. You've seen the leaked specs, and it's not anywhere near as weak as the Wii U. It's even more powerful while undocked for crying out loud. To put Xbox One level of power in a smartphone sized device (Almost the size of my Nexus 6) is absolutely insane at a sub $300 price. Let's also not forget Nintendo doesn't want to sell at a loss, which is why it's not $250. Nintendo doesn't care about specs, as this has been clear since 2006. If you haven't realized this by now, then you're making a fuss for no reason. They don't have the hardware development capabilities as their competition, this isn't the 90's anymore, so they focus more on innovation, games, and yes, gimmicks (Oh noes!). Why should yet another company enter the spec space that's saturated by Sony, Microsoft, and PC? Want high specs? Build a PC that costs the same as a PS4 pro. I mean, everyone and their mother have a PC these days.

Im talking about Nintendo games. Its not like I can get my fix on the WiiU...
