Then look on Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. Look at Youtube comments, the like-dislike ratios, the total views, the attention it's getting online overall from media outlets. If you still can't see any of it, then you're choosing not to look. 80 games being developed currently for the Switch, you think Nintendo is developing even 20 of those games on their own? Support in Japan is already on lockdown, so yes the WESTERN support is lacking, but unless you can see the future, then nothing is proven on either side of the debate.

I find Media outlets, Twitter, FB are mixed, more negative than positive.

Those are a dozen or so articles out of likely thousands on the Switch that can be found online. You can't expect anyone to take your tiny (self-selected) sample size or the fact that no one here has non-bias and come to a reasonable consclusion. I mean seriously, I've told you where to look on Youtube for example - the comments, like-dislike ratios, and views and yet you're still replying with "I find so and so are mixed, mostly negative, out of the 13 I searched for myself, and also because I personally didn't enjoy the presentation". Do the like-dislike ratios not count as hard evidence? Inb4 millions of people are called delusional "Nintendo fans".

Reception was pretty good, outside gaming forums. No problem whatsoever.

Not at all selected dude.  That list was top results from Googling "nintendo switch opinion" articles for the last week.

Just saying, you need to be aware of what each medium is biased towards.

 - Social media has the echo chamber effect: you see more of what you want to hear.
 - YouTube is a self-selective viewership.

So you're saying that articles from Polygon/Forbes/TheKoalition/etc are better at determing what the general thinks rather than comments from the general public on Facebook/Twitter/Youtube/etc?

Yes!  Don't treat self selective mediums as a way to poll the general public.  The general public isn't in your friend circle, hasn't watched the video as much as Nintendo fans, or tweeted about it.

Articles are not perfect, but if you do an unbiased it's at least going to tell you more than the other forms.

I'm going to have to disagree with you, I think the best way to find out what the general public thinks of a product is by listening to what they have to say about the product.

I'm pretty sure we saw many articles talk about how Wii & DS were gimmicky ideas that were going to get dominated by their more powerful competitors. I dont think anybody who speaks from a "hardcore" gamers perspective is a good person to listen to when it comes to figuring out what the average consumer wants.

I 100% agree with that statement, I just disagree that those sources give you an unbiased sampling of general public opinion.

I agree with the OP. If there is no significant price drop in the first 6 months, this will be a major flop. It is priced too high as a home console, never mind a handheld (you can get a PS4 or XBO with a game for the same price). I expect the PS4 and XBO will also drop in price by $20 to $50 later this year.

Personally, I think the handheld market will continue to shrink as mobile devices get better and better. This year's iPhone 8 will probably be on par performance wise with the WiiU. Mobile games keep getting better and better, and their social media apps are much better.

The Wii U had good games, but that didn't save it.

Nintendo should release the Switch without the Joycon grip and with a pack-in game for $249.99. They should also have a home console only version (with no screen) for $199.99.
