Yes!  Don't treat self selective mediums as a way to poll the general public.  The general public isn't in your friend circle, hasn't watched the video as much as Nintendo fans, or tweeted about it.

Articles are not perfect, but if you do an unbiased it's at least going to tell you more than the other forms.

I'm going to have to disagree with you, I think the best way to find out what the general public thinks of a product is by listening to what they have to say about the product.

I'm pretty sure we saw many articles talk about how Wii & DS were gimmicky ideas that were going to get dominated by their more powerful competitors. I dont think anybody who speaks from a "hardcore" gamers perspective is a good person to listen to when it comes to figuring out what the average consumer wants.
