Forums - Nintendo - The Switch is NOT the 3DS sucessor

It's quite obvious now.

- The 3DS family is starting from 99 to 199 while the Switch is starting at 299 and even 330 in Europe.

- The Switch is not really a portable and can't fit into a pocket

- All the Switch games looks like home console games, not like 3DS handheld games.

- Pokemon doesn't look like it is coming to Switch anytime soon judging by what Gamefreak said.

It's a hybrid it's the succesor of both the Wii U and 3DS. Because if Nintendo releases a dedicated handheld alongside the Switch. The Switch it's portability feature is not worth much anymore. All that remains of the Switch would be a very underpowered homeconsole considering the PS4 pro is GPU is at least 9 times more powerful.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Well, fuck me running, and here I thought it was portable. Canceling my pre-order now. WAit, what if i get pants with REALLY big pockets? can it be a portable then?

"Trick shot? The trick is NOT to get shot." - Lucian

It would be a really bad idea for there to another console, after the Switch can cover both bases...

Do you have any good reasons?

Yes, it's too expansive and not portable enough.

It can become.
They could easily build a smaller and cheaper switch, without some options of original switch, and call it the 3DS sucessor. That also run switch games.
But Id wait until 2018 holidays.

1. The 3ds, when launched, costed $250, which if you adjust for inflation is probably close to $270 or $280 now, not much different.

2. The Switch is THE portable many of us have wanted for a long time; larger, better screen, better graphics, FULL games that are portable (not cheap shovelware).

3. Have you even WATCHED the videos? There are tons of $20-30 games that are clearly more cheaply made that won't drain battery life as much as zelda.

4. What did Gamefreak say? And who cares? E3 is coming in like 4-5 months. I'm sure most of the games launching in December or sooner will be announced then. Nintendo announces things no more than 8 months in advanced now days (typically) so Pokemon Stars could still be coming this year.

It can't.

The 2ds is sold 100, the 3DS is sold 180.

The Switch is 300-330. It's not in the same class of products in the market.

1) The 3DS price was slashed very quickly because nobody wanted a portable with that price.

2) The Switch is a good product, but can't compete with the 3DS as a portable. It's too big.

3)I have watched a video. There are indie games but not the big portable games

4) They will watch if the Switch is successful before making any plan to develop on it. So it rules out Pokemon Star coming on Switch this year. http://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2016/12/16/game-freak-may-wait-and-see-with-the-nintendo-switch-before-releasing-a-new-pokemon-game-on-it/#21046a3f6409
