Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox Scorpio Presentation Spotted at AMD’s CES 2017 RYZEN/Vega Booth

So uh, this thing isn't going really affordable is it? :(

New Horizon was the name of the event that AMD held to show off Ryzen back in December 2016. They compared the top of the line 8 core Ryzen vs Intels best and it was neck and neck. At the very least, Ryzen chips should all be on par with what Intel has to offer now with Kaby Lake in the i3, i5, and i7 range, and should stay that way for a while.
There is a very good chance Scorpio will have Ryzen, even if its only a 4 core 8 thread model, instead of a full 8 core like MS said earlier. Ryzen no matter the model, will blow the doors off Jaguar.
Full 4k gaming also means Vega. They teased a Ryzen+Vega rig at the New Horizon event, playing Battlefront at 4k/60fps steady.
12GB of GDDR5 (based on Scorpio teaser video) seems to make the most sense considering thats a good place to save some coin considering Ryzen and Vega won't be overly cheap to put in the console. They might as well only have 8GB RAM if they decide to use GDDR5X or HBM.
A console with similar specs launching late 2017, will probably cost $600 to make all in. How much of that cost MS would be willing to eat, if any, is a toss up. I would guess they eat $100 and launch it at $499, making it truly feel Premium.

This thing could end up being a beast of a console. I hope its true and they found a way to sell it at $399. I think people would flock to Scorpio at that price.

I'm wondering whether we'll have a "I flew too close to the Ryzen Vega sun and my 12 HBM wings melted" thread after E3. It's always possible, yet next to a 249 switch, ps4 slim, xbox one s and 349 ps4 pro all making profit, why would MS go to that length.

For the people saying it will cost too much. Vega and zen architectures will have high and low end models. 400 Scorpio is reasonable. Plenty of time to scale down for holidays

This would suggest it has a Ryzen CPU right?

That would be big for MS.

So what does this mean?

Chance the CPU inside the Scorpio is alot better than what the PS4 has.

The new Ryzen CPUs are faster than Sandy Bridge mhz for mhz, and at lower power.

Its almost even with the fastest current intel cpu's (i7-6900k) (the top end, for Ryzen).

Obviously you dont put that much inside a console, but even a downclocked Ryzen CPU for the scorpio, would be a huge increase in cpu.

So will Scorpio get the continuation of Horizon? Good

Zen architecture is a beast. There are some good videos of legendary Jim Keller explaining what they did
